🔧 Pinned Lickerin → Wire Lickerin
❌ Not a “conversion” — it’s a replacement
Recently, during a discussion with an overseas agent, a question came up:
“Why not change old pinned lickerin rollers to wire type?”
This is becoming common in mills where pinned rollers have been running many years and uneven wear has appeared.
⚠️ What is usually not discussed clearly:
• Pinned lickerin rollers are designed for longer life cycles when geometry, pin quality, and seating accuracy are correct
• Wire lickerin rollers follow a shorter, more frequent replacement philosophy
• Initial cost difference between the two is often overestimated or misunderstood
• Many mills move to wire assuming it is a cost correction, without analysing life-cycle economics
Running a pinned roller for 8–10 years is not normal — it usually indicates delayed replacement decisions, not optimisation.
Changing to wire does not automatically solve the problem.
In many cases, it simply locks the mill into a higher replacement frequency.
