“Some ideas stay.”

This was one of the early ones—
working with reclaimed wood, corrugated sheets, and conduit pipes, making up nearly 60% of the material palette, at a time when upcycling and sustainable design weren’t the obvious choice.

Discarded bottles, carefully placed to form a wall that filters light and builds texture.
Each unit adds to a quiet rhythm—catching reflections, softening the interior, and giving depth through repetition.
A simple act of placing material with intent, allowing it to perform beyond its original use.

Architecture often begins with illusion—where perception reshapes the experience of space.
Through paint, perforation, and light, a flat ceiling transforms into a field of constellations, turning a modest interior into an atmospheric sky.

Here, depth is not built through height, but through perception.

AN ODE TO SHIGERU BAN

The use of paper tubes in architecture was reimagined by Shigeru Ban, who demonstrated that even the most ordinary industrial materials can become structural and spatial elements.

Originally used for packaging and textile rolls, paper tubes possess a remarkable strength-to-weight ratio. When arranged in repetition, they transform into walls, columns, and ceilings that shape light and space.

This installation explores a similar idea:
reuse as a design strategy.
Through simple cylindrical modules, discarded materials become texture, atmosphere, and structure—reminding us that architecture does not always require new materials, only new ways of seeing them.

"Architecture is the reaching out for light." — Louis Kahn

*The Science of Staying Cool*

In a tropical climate, architecture is a constant negotiation with the sun. The science behind this space is rooted in Thermal Mass.
The thick laterite stone walls act as a "heat sponge," soaking up the day’s warmth to keep the interior naturally cool without relying on heavy air conditioning. This passive cooling is paired with a polished stone floor, specifically chosen to remain cold underfoot even during the peak of summer.

*The Art of the Shadow*

The art of the design is found in the atmosphere. The roof beams and skylights aren't just structural supports; they are tools designed to "carve" the sunlight.
As the sun moves across the sky, these beams cast shifting geometric shadows across the traditional murals. This turns a solid, static wall into an ever-changing canvas, proving that when the engineering is solved, the beauty happens naturally.
It isn't just a structure; it’s a space that breathes.

Architecture begins with intention.

When design decisions are made consciously, excess disappears on its own.

Spaces become purposeful, materials are used responsibly, and what already exists finds renewed meaning rather than being discarded.

Designing this way is not about trends or labels.

It is about understanding buildings as part of a larger cycle—where materials are respected, waste is reduced at the source, and architecture remains adaptable over time.

Architecture isn’t static.
It is a conversation with time.

We often mistake architecture for something frozen—an object of concrete, wood, and steel.

But true architecture matures.

It deepens in color, records seasons,
and slowly settles into its landscape—
allowing nature to soften its edges.

Designed with time in mind,
a space becomes more than shelter.

It grows, adapts, and ages alongside us.

The bricks may hold the roof up,
but it is time that gives a building its soul.

Unbuilt

'Earthcrete' as its name suggests is concrete but made with its main component as earth and not cement. It is a wet mixture of earth, broken debris and cement is used for the sole purpose of binding all of these materials.

Construction Technique - Timber Frame with Wattle and Daub

Wattle and daub is one of the oldest and most honest building techniques, where a woven timber framework (wattle) is infilled with an earthen mix of soil, fibre, and water (daub). The system works as a breathable skin—regulating temperature, managing moisture, and ageing naturally with time. Rooted in vernacular wisdom, it uses minimal processed material while responding intuitively to climate, craft, and context.

Construction Technique-Load Bearing masonry with Wirecut and Mould Bricks.

Load-bearing masonry is a method of construction where the brick walls act as the primary structural system without an RCC frame. In this structure, the Wirecut bricks are used for dimensional control and structural consistency, while moulded bricks are integrated based on detailing and site conditions. The structure is resolved through wall thickness, brick bonding, and controlled mortar joints.

✅What are laterite bricks❓

☑️Laterite bricks are a type of construction material commonly used in India. They have been used in India for centuries and are still popular today. Made from laterite soil, which is abundant in many parts of the country, these bricks are known for their durability and strength. It is rich in iron and aluminium oxides, giving the bricks their distinctive reddish-brown colour.

✅Advantages of laterite bricks

☑️Thermal insulation property☑️
Being natural stones, laterite has an inherent cooling property that helps to keep homes cool during summer. This is particularly beneficial for buildings located in hot regions. The thermal insulation property of laterite bricks also allows them to adjust better with the weather.

☑️Sustainability☑️
The production of laterite bricks is environment-friendly in nature. As laterite bricks are most commonly quarried/excavated in-situ or locally, they do not contribute to the production of greenhouse gases, which helps to reduce carbon dioxide.

☑️Durability☑️
Laterite bricks come with exceptional durability, whereby they are able to withstand extreme weather conditions and remain in good condition for years on end.

☑️Fire-resistant☑️
Laterite bricks have high fire resistance, making them a safe choice for construction. They do not easily catch fire and can withstand high temperatures, providing added protection to buildings and occupants.
