𝐼𝑛 1976, 𝑑𝑢𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐸𝑚𝑒𝑟𝑔𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑦, 𝐼𝑛𝑑𝑖𝑎 𝑝𝑎𝑠𝑠𝑒𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 42𝑛𝑑 𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑡𝑢𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝐴𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡.
The government believed the country needed stronger central control. Courts were seen as obstacles. Individual freedoms were curtailed. Power shifted heavily to the Centre.
It was so sweeping, people called it the “Mini Constitution.”

But then came the correction.

In 1977, the people voted decisively. A new government took office.

This one restored civil liberties. Restricted Emergency powers. Added safeguards to prevent future misuse.
One amendment expanded control. The next one deliberately pulled it back.
That ability to self-correct—even after a dark chapter—is the true strength of India’s Republic.

Today morning on the streets here in Ahmedabad, I saw a boy trying hard to get his kite up.
Wind was blowing one way. He kept running the other way — pulling, running faster, getting frustrated.
Kite refused to fly. Not because he wasn't trying enough. Just because he was going against the wind.

I smiled and said: "Don't fight the wind. Turn and run with it."

The boy turned. Ran the new way. Kite went up smooth and high.

Life and work feel the same sometimes. More effort doesn't always win. A small change in direction does.

5 Simple Tests to Know If Your Steam System Is Breathing Wrong

Every boiler room has gauges, traps, and vents—but very few plants know how to listen to what they’re saying.

A steam system “breathes” through its pressure, condensate return, and leak integrity. When that breathing goes uneven, fuel starts vanishing.

Here are five quick field tests any engineer can do without shutting down the plant:
1️⃣ Pressure Gauge Drift: If your pressure needle swings more than ± 0.5 bar at steady load, it’s not “normal vibration”—it’s turbulence or air ingress disturbing heat transfer.
2️⃣ Steam Trap Discharge: A cold trap return means it’s failed closed or air-locked, letting condensate back up and create wet steam.
3️⃣ Condensate Color: Milky = carry-over from high TDS; rusty = oxygen corrosion. Both signal treatment or deaeration faults.
4️⃣ Sound Test: A faint hiss can be costly. A 3 mm leak at 8 bar g releases ≈ 26 kg/h of steam—over ₹3 lakh per year in fuel loss.
5️⃣ Infrared Temperature Gun: If the temperature difference between supply and return lines is under 10 °C, you’re transferring heat efficiently; anything higher points to fouling or low flow.
These tiny observations tell you if your steam network is inhaling clean or choking on losses.
📋 If even one of these looks off, your system is “breathing wrong.”

Why 92% Efficiency on Paper in Gas/Oil-Fired Boilers Often Means 82% in Reality
Catalogue numbers come from perfect test benches: clean heat-transfer surfaces, ~3% O₂, ~180 °C stack temperature, ~2% blowdown, steady full load. Real plants drift. And drift costs money.
Field rules of thumb:
• Every +20 °C in stack temperature ≈ −1% efficiency
• O₂ drift 3% → 6% ≈ −1.5% (more flue-gas mass → higher stack loss)
• Blowdown near 10% ≈ −2.5% if you don’t recover that heat
• Cycling/part-load ≈ −1–2% across the year
Do the math and 92% becomes ~84–85% in day-to-day operation.
On a 10 TPH gas boiler, that “invisible” 7–8% can be worth ₹5–6 lakh/month in avoidable fuel.
