Chhaaon : Fresh hopes and new beginnings...

Hello friends,
The year 2016 is upon us. We have been lying low but things are moving steadily. Here's the recent update:

*The defective benches have been replaced by the manufacturer and the new ones have been re-installed in their previous location: Girls Common room in Science wing.

* Bringing wider participation and dynamism on board, a 9 member Chhaaon executive committee has been formed via an online poll and election by the donor members. Wishing them luck!

* The process for registering Chhaaon has been under discussion.We hope to achieve this soon enough.

Benches Delivered for Women's Common Room:

As part of the ongoing Chhaon initiative, four cement benches have been fixed outside Gol Ghar, women's common room in science wing. The smiles on the girls' faces convey their appreciation for this much needed gift by all of you.
A big thank you !!

Chhaon is proudly delighted as more St Johnians embrace this cause and continue to open their heart....

Chhaon Disburses scholarships:
Many thanks to all you generous souls that made it possible, Chhaon could lend a hand in shaping future.

How we chose:
Chhaon steadily made consistent effort to seek out the most deserving students for the scholarships.
We invited applications, defined criteria ( low income, good grades, not receiving any aid) and discussed the candidates with the faculty involved. Madame Susan particularly thanked here for her commitment.

The result:
With your profound support Chhaon is pleased to share that it will be supporting 11students giving out Scholarships worth around Rs 36000 for 2015-16.

Dear friends your support, both in money and spirit is the backbone of this initiative. Let's get more of us here..

Chhaon... the first step taken..
Friends with all your good wishes Chhaon is extremely delighted to spread its shade. We made a small beginning today by installing water cooler and giving away the wheelchair to the college at a small function.It was all made possible your generosity and compassion.
In his address, the Principal conveyed his gratitude & thanks to entire Chhaon fraternity for their generosity.
The smiling faces of the students surely left a feeling beyond words. Kudos to you all !
May we bring more cheer, more Chhaon ...

Dear friends
With everyone's wishes & unprecedented support we have been able to put up phase 1 of Chhaon . We will be handing over officially the water cooler & wheelchair tomorrow evening 4pm in Deptt. of Chemistry. Principal St.Johns College &Staff members will be gracing the occasion. All friends in Agra & from anywhere , but present in Agra tomorrow are humbly requested to be present & be a part of this historic programme

Encouraged by your generous contributions Chhaon makes a humble beginning:
1. Dr Susan Verghese to identify and send the details for deserving girl students. Process to start in a day or two. Currently 5 girl students, including a disabled, to be supported.
2. Also following to be ordered and installed:Water cooler in science wingWheel chair for a girl studentBenches (4) for Golghar

Broadly fee to cost 22000 and rest of the stuff around 80k.
There are definitely more requirements as we could sense during our elaborate discussion like girl students needing help with mess fee/hostel etc. We would love to do more for the needy. So please keep those moolahs coming :)

Chhaaon :

A fundraising initiative of St. John's college Agra, 89 Science batch with a view to help raise funds for scholarships and infrastructure.

CURRENTLY WE ARE INVITING PARTICIPATION AND DONATIONS FROM 1989 SCIENCE BATCHES ONLY,ANY CHANGE IN THE POLICY SHALL BE NOTIFIED.

Objectives:
A• To provide scholarships to needy meritorious ( preferably girl) students (graduation/any stream) for three ongoing years.
B• To provide equipment/classroom infrastructure/services as decided by consensual analysis as per requisitions after classroom visits

Agenda Chhaaon phase I:

•The current edition for year
2015-16 as decided by survey analysis, the funds raised would be split 60:40 for A and B respectively.

• Number of students supported directly dependant on funds, annual fee being around Rs 3600 (exact amount to be provided)

• Equipment/infrastructure decided in the order Dept signboards, water cooler(s), wheelchair ( number and specifics to be provided)

POA :

• bank details to be provided
• Fund generation ( initial survey hinted 1.2 lakh, looking at more)
• final decision on specifics of A and B based on funds
• ex*****on of A and B ( needy students to be identified through our batch mate and St. John's lecturer Raju John in conjunction with Manu Mahajan ; purchase of B to be done by Manu Mahajan in consultation with Vanaj Mathur)
• All transactions 100% by cheques to maintain transparency
• monthly bank statement for Chhaon bank a/c to be shared with members
