Published in Therapeutic Advances in Ophthalmology, a new 2-year follow-up study confirms that the Intensity® Pentafocal IOL delivers not just strong visual acuity outcomes, but lasting ones, with a remarkably high degree of patient satisfaction after cataract surgery.

The peer-reviewed study from Dr. Germán Bianchi - médico oftalmólogo tracked 60 patients (120 eyes) who underwent bilateral Intensity SL implantation. It found that visual performance remained stable between the 6-month and 24-month evaluations, and the defocus curve was nearly identical at both time points, confirming long-term optical stability.

Key results:
• VF-14 Quality of Life score: 98.6/100
• 97% completely spectacle-free for intermediate vision
• 100% would choose the same treatment again

Strong engagement around refractive cataract surgery at the National Congress of Ophthalmology in Argentina.

Our technologies, including the Intensity® Pentafocal IOL, were featured during the congress, with high interest from the ophthalmic community.

A key highlight was the industry symposium led by Dr. Adrián Artigas, “Principios básicos de Multifocalidad”, which drew a full room and provided an overview of multifocality, including how the Intensity®’s unique pentafocal design—with symmetric foci distribution around the zero order—compares to standard trifocal IOLs in clinical practice.

At the booth, discussions continued in a dedicated listening area, where surgeons had the opportunity to engage directly and address questions.

In recent weeks, a small ophthalmic team traveled from Germany to Léo, Burkina Faso, as part of a humanitarian mission organized by Interplast Germany e.V. and led by Dr. Andrea Huth and her team.

The work was carried out at a local clinic established by Operieren in Afrika e.V., which has been supporting access to surgical care and medical training in the region for many years.

Over the course of one week, more than 250 patients - many with advanced cataracts - were examined and received essential care. Hanita Lenses is grateful to have supported this effort with a donation of IOLs and surgical supplies.

Alongside treatment, a key focus of this recurring mission is the training of local ophthalmologists, supporting long-term, independent care within the community.

Initiatives like this highlight the value of sustained, hands-on collaboration, bringing together international expertise and local capacity to improve access to sight-restoring care. Our sincere appreciation to Dr. Huth and all teams involved for their continued dedication.

Hanita Lenses was pleased to be part of OphthalmicHUB 2026 in Kyiv, Ukraine - an international platform bringing together the ophthalmic community for knowledge exchange and collaboration.

A key highlight of this year’s congress was the presentation by Prof. Valerii Serdiuk, “3D Vision technology: A new era in natural vision,” where he explored the elements required to achieve uncompromising outcomes in modern ophthalmic surgery.

Hanita Korea recently had the honor of hosting around 30 ophthalmologists from the Korea University alumni for an in-depth discussion on Hanita Lenses’ Intensity® IOL.

A huge thank you to Dr. Youngsub Eom (Yes Eye Center) for delivering an exceptional presentation on his clinical outcomes with Intensity, with the following key takeaways:

🔹 Sinusoidal Design: Highlighted the unique benefits of the sinusoidal optical design with its base power optimized for intermediate distance.

🔹 Pupil-Optimized Energy Distribution: Explained how smart energy distribution tailored to pupil size not only enhances visual acuity but also significantly reduces glare.

🔹 Impressive Defocus Curve: Demonstrated a remarkably flat defocus curve, maintaining 1.0 VA across all distances from +0.5 to -2.0 D.

🔹 Optical Bench Test: Shared his own USAF resolution chart data, proving Intensity provides the widest visual range compared to other multifocal IOLs.

About the Speaker: Having recently transitioned from a university hospital professorship to private practice, Dr. Youngsub Eom is a highly influential KOL and a prominent member of the prestigious IOL Power Club (IPC). Most impressively, he is the developer of the "Eom IOL Power Calculator". In a recent 2025 large-scale study evaluating 36 formulas by global authorities (including Dr. Kenneth J. Hoffer and Dr. David L. Cooke), his formula was ranked among the Top 4 most accurate IOL power calculation formulas in the world!

APAO 2026 in Hong Kong highlighted the growing global reach of the congress and its role within the international ophthalmic community. The Hanita Lenses team saw firsthand how this year’s meeting brought together not only participants from across Asia-Pacific, but also an increasing number of ophthalmologists and distributors from Europe and Latin America.

This provided an excellent platform for discussions around the landscape of refractive cataract care, with strong interest in our advanced solutions:

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a very successful FacoElche 2026. It was a pleasure to meet colleagues and partners and to discuss the latest developments in the Hanita Lenses portfolio, including Extend™, the world’s first Bessel-optics monofocal plus IOL, designed to provide monofocal-like distance vision with functional intermediate vision.

During this congress, we also presented the new paradigm in refractive cataract care — the combination of the JETT® treatment with our Intensity® Pentafocal IOL — addressing dry eye and ocular surface disease before and after surgery to help patients fully benefit from premium IOL outcomes.

The Hanita Lenses team and the Global Medical Director of JETT Devices, Dr. Vicente Rodriguez, spent two productive and inspiring days in Porto, focusing on collaboration, training, and the continuous exchange of clinical insight.

Together with Dr. Ramiro Salgado, we explored a key principle in modern refractive cataract surgery: optimizing the ocular surface as a fundamental prerequisite for visual quality, enabling patients to fully benefit from premium IOL implantation.
