Across many countries, waterways are being redesigned with wildlife in mind. What used to be dangerous canals are now equipped with simple escape routes, giving animals like foxes, turtles, and other creatures a chance to climb out instead of being trapped.

These thoughtful adjustments don’t interfere with how humans use these spaces, yet they make a life-saving difference every day.

It’s proof that protecting nature doesn’t always require big, dramatic action. Sometimes, it’s about small, intentional choices in how we design the places we live. When we build with awareness, we create a world where people and wildlife can thrive side by side.

Should this be required by law everywhere?
