Last weekend I taught two botanical watercolour workshops in Wales. One for the Wales Society of Botanical Illustrators on Saturday and one for on Sunday.

I bought all the sweet pea flowers from lovely Andrea and this painting is my demonstration watercolour painting from the workshop at Beth’s art school on Sunday.

Driving around Wales all weekend with three buckets full of sweet peas (with water in them obviously) was a challenge! I had an amazing time with everyone at the workshops and the art everyone produced was brilliant. I always love seeing everyone’s individual styles shine through X

Sweet pea painting in watercolour.

On the 10th June, Rachel and I are holding a special workshop together on how to grow and paint beautiful sweet peas.

From 10am-3pm, the day will involve you learning how to grow sweet peas successfully with Rachel who will share her favourite varieties for cutting, sowing methods, site preparation, planting and growing on.

After a home-cooked two course lunch, I will then be teaching you how to draw and paint the sweet peas we pick that day. Using watercolour, I will guide you through my process staring from drawing the sweet peas, and learning how to layer the watercolours to create a beautiful painting. No experience is necessary.

Please head to Rachel’s website to book. The link is in the bio.

Butterfly Ranunculus in watercolour.

56x76cm
Hot pressed Fabriano Artistico paper

The first in a series of large scale watercolour paintings. This has taken a long time to draw out and compose- nearly as long as painting it. As I always say to everyone in my watercolour workshops- if the drawing isn’t right in the first place then you’ll never be happy with the painting at the end.

At the time of painting these flowers I was particularly inspired by:

1. .moralioglu new Spring Summer collection
2. The artwork of Hilma Af Klint
3. The In Bloom exhibition
