James Wild MP has welcomed Norfolk County Council’s announcement of its new Heating Oil Crisis Fund, which is being introduced to help households under pressure from the recent surge in heating oil prices.
Following a £3.56 million allocation to Norfolk, the council has now launched the fund and added its own contribution to bring its wider Crisis and Resilience Fund to £6 million.
The new fund is focused on households who, without support, would be left without heating or hot water. Support will be based on individual circumstances rather than fixed eligibility rules, so that help can reach people who might not otherwise be eligible. James said the fund will provide welcome support to households facing immediate pressure, but that the broader challenge remains significant for rural communities where so many homes rely on heating oil. He will continue pressing ministers to go further make sure councils have the backing they need to respond properly, so that no household is left behind.
Speaking on the announcement, James Wild MP said:
“This fund will provide important support to households across Norfolk facing the sharp rise in heating oil prices. In a rural county where so many homes depend on oil, it is right that help is being made available for those at real risk of being left without heating or hot water.
“However, with demand likely to remain high, it is important to ensure councils have the resources they need to support struggling households."

In our rural county where so many homes rely on heating oil, this fund will provide important support for households at real risk of being left without heating or hot water.
The scheme will be available through Norfolk County Council from 1 April 2026, however in the meantime, payments can be made specifically to support households facing rising oil-heating costs.
