The 8th Carlton Scroop Vintage Hand Tool Extravaganza
Was held, last Saturday 12th April 2025 at Carlton Scroop's village hall.
The doors opened at 9.30am, to our usual mixture of tool dealers, demonstrations of craft skills, and displays of private tool collections. A quick rundown, in no particular order, demonstrating farmhouse type chairmaking and woodcarving was Peter Tree, woodturning with Andy James, Gypsy-peg making shown by Skip Ari Hunter (ably assisted by Katie), our stalwart on all things sharpening - Peter Tiffney again in attendance, Beasy James showing her tapestry and rug making creations, Richard Arnold expounding on his 18th century British wooden planes, Tim Smith showed his ever expanding collection of British chariot, mitre, and infill planes, David Winder brought a collection of infill planes of his own making, and last but not least Andy Brown curating a display of unusual and wacky tools of all descriptions.
One of the important reasons for holding the event - aside from all the above - is to provide a social gathering where like-minded people can discuss the vagaries of the vintage woodworking hand-tool world, with everyones theories and thoughts being received and mulled over in a friendly fashion. A lot of tea and coffee was drunk along with goodly sized wedges of home baked cake being consumed, served up by our very own Susie and Valerie! Lots of old friends warmly greeted, plus lots of new friends and contacts were made during the day. Sadly, a number of our regular attendees were away with families taking advantage of the Easter half term holidays, but we look forward to seeing them at 'Extravaganza' no 9.
To all that missed this event, our next (9th) is planned for Saturday October 11th 2025.
If you think you would like to show a collection, or would fancy demonstrating a craft skill, let's talk. Please private message me.
Attached photos will give a flavour of what we get upto on the day.
Regards to all, Robert Old Tool Mart🪚 🍰🛠😁
