My guest on this week's episode of the Small Business Big Network podcast is Sarah White.

Sarah is a Personal Branding and Visibility Mentor, Speaker and Networking Host, supporting business owners to build a brand that reflects who they are and what they stand for.

Sarah struggled in business for a long time, expecting her work to speak for itself and not wanting to be around other business owners for fear of being judged and feeling inferior. When she did try networking though, the power of letting people get to know the person behind the business became clear, and Sarah has since built her business around helping others to do just that!

Why We Finally Built a Membership for Voice Actors (And What’s Actually In It) . Rob and Helen Bee at B Double E are the masters of helping voiceover artists be seen and heard. I highly recommend subscribing to their blog - have a read of one of their posts here 😊

We've been talking about doing this for nearly a year. In this episode of The Voiceover Social podcast, Rob and Helen Bee explain what Be Seen, Be Heard actually is – and why they built it.

Have you ever been told you have a nice voice?
Have you always wondered about whether you could get into the voice over industry?
Have you thought about voice over work but not known where to start?

I can help 😊

I've pulled together all the golden nuggets I can think of about how to get started in this industry. It's basically all the stuff I wish I'd known ten plus years ago.

Here's what voice over artist Deryn Oliver had to say about it: 'It is such a useful read for both beginner and experienced voice over actors. I would recommend this book this anyone involved in the business or thinking about doing so.'

On this week's episode of the Come Here! podcast we're talking about natural heritage for a change. My guest is Emma Wilmot from the Far Ings National Nature Reserve in Barton on Humber, part of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust.
The reserve has an industrial past which you can still see signs of today, but the star attractions are the many kinds of wildlife that now make the reed beds of the reserve their home.
Find out what you can see there by having a listen at www.lizdrury.com/come-here/

Warming up before recording is so important a) to protect my voice and b) to make me sound better!

Here's a little exercise I always do before hitting the record button.

I challenge you to give it a try too!

It's not only useful for voiceover artists, but for anyone who is a public speaker, or maybe just giving a presentation at work.

You might feel a bit silly but I guarantee it'll make you sound better.

Give it a go and tell me if you noticed a difference!

My guest on the Small Business Big Network podcast this week is Paul Westlake (Westy).

As Digital Director at PeopleUnboxed and Customer Success Director at BentoBot – a spaced repetition solution that makes learning stick – Westy transforms how organisations develop their people.

But here's the thing: Westy didn't start in a boardroom. He spent five years in the trenches delivering face-to-face leadership training before leading McDonald's UK through a complete digital L&D transformation – designing learning experiences for 120,000 employees who didn't have time to waste on forgettable training.

After his McDonald's decade, Westy moved supplier-side with Kineo, where he designed award-winning learning solutions for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Compass Group, and Mitchells & Butlers. He also hosted Kineo's "Stream of Thought" podcast, proving that learning geeks can be entertaining.

His superpower? Combining analytical and creative thinking to challenge the status quo. He doesn't just ask "what training do you need?" – he asks "what actually needs to change?" Then he builds blended solutions that genuinely shift behaviours and deliver results.

When he's not empowering L&D teams to be heroes, Paul's an award-winning wedding photographer!

He has lots of great tips for networking as you'll hear, including the suggestion to create a niche for yourself which will make you more memorable.

Want to be a VoiceOver artist?

If you’ve been thinking about a career in voiceover, you might not sure where to start, or what your first steps should be. There is a tonne of information out there and it’s easy to go down rabbit holes and still not find what you need. My simple 30 page guide to getting started in voiceover will set you off on the right track.

I’ve been working as a voiceover artist since 2013 and I am often approached by people who want to be voiceover artists, or who are just starting out in their careers. I’m always happy to have a chat and point them in the right direction, but there’s a limit to how much information I can give them during a short online conversation, and it’s easy for them to quickly become overwhelmed.

So, I’ve collated my knowledge, tips, advice, and links to useful websites, in one easy to read guide which you can download and read at your leisure.

My guide to getting started in voiceover includes chapters on what voiceover is and what voiceover artists do, training, demos, home studios, marketing, and more. It will give you an overview of the industry, and the life of a working VO. It contains all the information I wish I’d had at the start of my career and will help you avoid some of the mistakes I made so you can hit the ground running!
