In case you’re not aware, there’s a public toilet open in Murray Park at the weekends. The entrance is on the south side of the hall, with this sign on the door.

After many years of campaigning & trying to negotiate with the council for Friends of Murray Park to run a community hub & cafe from the hall, we gave up. Our bid constantly fell on deaf ears & wasn’t supported by local councillors who just followed the line trotted out by staff.

We fully supported the Little Green Van that got permission to operate at weekends next to the hall & who opened the toilets for park users. But English weather doesn’t make for great outdoor refreshments all year round & they have had to give up.

Now the council has decided to go out to tender for someone to run catering concessions in all parks. To us, that’s favouring big business over local volunteers & small local businesses - just wrong.

Take a look at this petition. Please support it as the next best option for Murray Park.

Sadly, the oak tree in the playground in Murray Park has died and has to be removed.
We’ve asked the parks department to retain the trunk if possible so we can make a carved feature of it. We’ll keep you updated.
