Customer in this week with their Skoda's windows intermittently working. Our customer booked in at a time that suited them, using our flexible booking system on our website, and we called out to their home to work around their busy schedule. On arrival, code scan revealed: "01331 = ECU Driver Door - J386 No Signal/No Communication". Upon first inspection, it was clear as to why the window was not working. The door harness at the door jam is a classic area of failure due to the opening and closing of the door causing fatigue of the wiring and insulation. This was clearly not the first time this vehicle has had this issue as it has been repaired previously, and had finally failed due to corrosion, therefore a new harness is the only way to ensure a durable fix.

Strange one this week!, Citroen C3 in with the customer complaining the car wouldn't stop starting!, Obviously this was quite concerning given the car was cranking without the keys in the ignition! We called out to the customer at a time that suited them best, and confirmed the car was indeed cranking on its own without the keys in the ignition.

Code scan revealed a "05FF - BSI internal fault (BSI reset) - Not characterized - local", and after removing the fuse for the starter motor, we could begin the diagnosis. After testing and ruling out the ignition start request signal from the barrel, and the starter motor wiring, we were left with the BSI itself. More than likely this has had a short circuit within the module, which replicated the signal out to the starter motor. The BSI is an integrated module containing a computer, as well as fuses and relays that control the body systems. Once the new BSI was fitted, the car would only start on request!

Vauxhall Corsa in this week with engine light on, with a P0141: O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction code stored.

Our customer booked in using our website, and we called out a time that suited them best. After reviewing the data on the scan tool it was clear the rear oxygen sensor was not operating correctly and was in fact reading 1.89V under all conditions.

Once the heater was confirmed as working correctly, and the remaining signal wires were intact back to the ECU, the rear oxygen sensor was deemed to be at fault and a new one ordered.

Customer in today with a Citroen Grand Picasso that was their trusted family car, after noticing a crunching sound when turning the steering wheel and the airbag light being lit on the dash, along with a loss of steering wheel controls. Code scan revealed "B0001 Airbag - Level 1 drivers airbag line fault", which along with the customers complaint of crunching in the steering wheel, it was clear the clock spring had failed.

Our customer was a busy mum with an MOT due, and was able to book us in around her busy work/life schedule using our flexible booking on our website. We then called out at a time that suited her best, and got her trusted family car back ferrying the kid around once more!

Customer called in this week reporting a burning smell after their aftermarket radio suddenly turned off, and smoke began to pour out of the dashboard! Given the potential fire risk we called down to their home address straight away. Thankfully, despite being a budget aftermarket radio fitted by a previous owner, the fuse did its job and saved the unit from further damage or fire.

Something interesting in this week that you don't see every day. Customer called us with his beloved 454ci Chevrolet C10 pickup, yes that's right, a 7.4 litre engine! They were reporting that the trucks fans were not operating correctly and the engine was getting too hot, after a small bump on the drivers corner.

We called out to their home at a time that suited them best, and were able to ascertain the cause of failure. Given the condition of the exiting kit that is fitted to the vehicle and that the truck will be at some shows next year, a new kit was recommended to ensure safe and reliable operation of that 7.4 litre big block.

Campervan conversion in today with the engine going into limp mode, and after replacing the MAP sensor didn't fix it, the customer got in touch. We called out to their home at a time that suited them and that allowed them to continue with their day. Code scan revealed DF004 - Turbocharging pressure sensor circuit. From here we use the oscilloscope to check power and ground at the sensor, then we found the signal wire was intermittently dropping out, this lead us to a damaged section of the MAP sensor harness. We then conducted a small repair on the wiring harness, using some abrasion resistant loom tape and confirmed the sensor was now working as it should.

Customer called today after what initially seemed to be a small bump on a local roundabout. After some time passed the daytime running lights and headlight stopped working altogether. So they gave us a call and we were able to come out to their home and work around their busy schedule. However after further inspection it was clear the small bump turned out to have severely damaged the headlight unit.

Bit of a change from diagnostics today! One of our returning customers needed an annual service on their civic. We were able to call out to their home address at a time that suited them, while they continued to work from home. We took care of that yearly stress and got another job ticked off their list, without them having to take time off work to come out to a garage, and then struggle to get a lift home, or worse yet, wait around!

Customer called in today with a Volkswagen T4 which was custom built in the UK using a mixture of a new engine and interior to make it their own. Customer reported no engine light ever being present on dashboard, as well as no communications with engine controller but with the vehicle not driving as it used to. After confirming both the no communication with the engine controller and the lack of engine light on the dashboard, we confirmed the communication bus was intact at the dashboard.

We then measured no LIN bus activity at the engine controller despite the engine starting and running as it should, and the LIN bus being intact at the dashboard. This means we were looking for an open/short circuit. From here, we traced the wiring back to the main fuse box, which as you can see is a mess on these old buses! and found that during the vans engine conversion some 7 years ago the LIN bus wire was never connected. We found the light blue connector tucked behind the carpet, and all that was required was for it to be plugged back in. From here the ECU was present and able to communicate, and the customer could continue with the running faults.
