Under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR), qualifying compressed air systems must have a Written Scheme of Examination (WSE) in place.

✅ Statutory examinations by a competent person.
✅ Identification of corrosion and potential defects.
✅ Protection of employees, equipment and your business.
✅ Compliance with legal safety requirements.

⚠️ Remember: A routine compressor service does NOT replace a statutory PSSR examination!

🔴 2️⃣ DRAIN YOUR AIR RECEIVER – WATER IS THE SILENT KILLER! 💧

Compressing air naturally produces condensate, which can accumulate inside your receiver.

Without effective drainage and maintenance, this can lead to:

❌ Severe internal corrosion and pitting.
❌ Reduced vessel wall thickness.
❌ Contaminated compressed air.
❌ Premature receiver failure.
❌ Potentially catastrophic rupture under pressure.

⚡A MAJOR UPGRADE FOR THIS COMPRESSED AIR SYSTEM ⚡

We recently completed the installation of a new SCR 180EPM, replacing an existing HPC DSDX245SFC and bringing the customer the benefits of the latest generation of variable speed compressor technology.
The HPC had served the site well, but the new SCR 180EPM provides a significant step forward in efficiency, control and performance.

🔹 Permanent Magnet Motor Technology – designed to deliver excellent motor efficiency across the operating range.

🔹 Variable Speed Efficiency – the SCR adjusts its output to closely match the site’s actual compressed air demand, helping to reduce unnecessary energy consumption.

🔹 Reduced Off-Load Running – less wasted energy when demand drops, helping lower the overall cost of producing compressed air.

🔹 Efficient Across Changing Demand – ideal for industrial sites where compressed air requirements fluctuate throughout the working day.

🔹 Modern Control & Monitoring – providing greater visibility of compressor performance and helping the customer get the best from their compressed air system.

🧠 SWP also installed a METACENTRE CORE to regulate and sequence the new SCR alongside the site’s existing HPC compressors.

Rather than each compressor independently reacting to pressure changes, the METACENTRE can manage the plant as one system — helping maintain a stable pressure, reduce unnecessary compressor cycling and off-load running, and select the most appropriate combination of compressors to meet demand.

For SWP, this is another big milestone and one of the largest compressors we’ve installed to date.

It’s not simply about installing a bigger compressor — it’s about delivering a smarter, more efficient and better-controlled compressed air system.

💨 More than just compressed air servicing — complete breathing air solutions from SWP.

Our engineer recently carried out a full service on an Atlas Copco XAS 88-7 portable compressor, ensuring the machine was operating exactly as it should.

Alongside the service, we also put together a dedicated RADEX Breathing Air Filter Unit, complete with a water spinner, ready for the customer’s application.

But supplying the equipment is only part of the job. ✅

Once everything was set up, we carried out a full breathing air quality test using our FACTAIR F6000, verifying the quality of the supplied breathing air and ensuring the system met the required standards for safe use.

🔧 An engineer’s life… it’s not always glamorous! 😅

Today’s job takes us into a seriously dusty plant room, carrying out a full service on a large Mikropor MKE 5850 refrigerant dryer.

Plant room conditions can be tough, but regular maintenance is even more important in environments like this. Keeping the dryer clean, serviced and operating efficiently helps maintain reliable air quality, reduce pressure drop and prevent unexpected downtime.

Our engineers don’t just change service parts and walk away — we take pride in giving the equipment the attention it needs, whatever the working environment. 💪
