This was our contribution to the London project Thames Tideway.
The Thames Tideway Tunnel is a major new sewer that will be built in London in the coming years.
At 25 kilometres long and around 65 metres deep, the tunnel is the largest infrastructure project undertaken by the UK water sector since privatisation.
Currently London’s sewers, which catch both sewage and rainfall, can fill up after only 2mm of rain. As there is nowhere for the excess sewage to go, it spills out in to the Thames.
Each year around 39 million tonnes of sewage spill out in to the river. The tunnel is the UK Government’s preferred solution to tackle pollution in the River Thames, resulting from the growing population of London and its aging sewer system.
PLS worked on behalf of GH Cranes.
We installed & commissioned these 2 55T Twin Beamed Gantry Cranes.
With a 35.3 meter span, once built, these cranes weighed over 80T each.
The cranes, travel over a distance of 86meters, which both travel over a shaft which is over 30meters wide and 65 meters deep.
Using a 500t mobile crane, with luffing jib attached, King Lifting provided assistance for lifting these cranes up on to the rail.
It really was a fantastic job by all, completed safely & in a timely manner.
Thanks to all those who were involved in this project.
