“It was so cold, it took my breath away!”

23 colleagues from across the business stepped up to take on the Ice Bucket Challenge earlier this month - embracing the cold shock for a great cause!

We’ve now counted the donations and are delighted to share that, together, we raised an incredible £1,400 (including match funding) for our Charity of the Year, Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association (Reading & West Berkshire). It was also fantastic to be joined by volunteers from the local MNDA team.

The work the charity does is vital - supporting people and families affected by motor neurone disease, while funding critical research towards a cure. We’re proud to play our part in helping drive that forward.

We were delighted to welcome nine local students to Westcoast HQ for Workwise, our work experience initiative. As part of our wider BrightSparks programme, Workwise helps inspire young people to explore careers in STEM through workplace placements, CV workshops, coaching and collaboration with local schools.

The students enjoyed a week of hands-on learning, department shadowing and real-world business challenges. They spent time across multiple areas of the business, heard from colleagues who generously shared their knowledge and experience, and took on a commercial team challenge that showcased their creativity, confidence and teamwork.

A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and expertise to make the programme such a success. We're already looking forward to welcoming our next cohort.

Look at those cakes! 🍰

We had a delicious cake sale at our Westcoast head office in Theale, raising funds for our Charity of the Year, the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association. The charity does amazing work supporting people living with MND, funding research, and providing vital care.

Thank you to the charity volunteers who baked and joined us on the day, and to our talented Westcoast bakers - some incredible creations! A special thank you to Claire for organising, and to everyone who baked, donated, and enjoyed the cakes.

Together we raised a phenomenal £1,688 with match funding - a sweet success!

Following our 2025 partnership with Yorda Adventures - which raised an incredible £48,854 - we were delighted to welcome Laura Smyth MBE back to Westcoast for a session focused on supporting neurodiverse children.

This wasn’t just a talk. It created a safe, open space for colleagues - parents, grandparents, and family members - to share experiences, ask questions, and learn from each other.

Laura brought practical tools, honest insight, and a powerful reminder: behaviours often labelled as "challenging" are often forms of communication or coping. From understanding sensory processing to simple, everyday techniques, the session provided our team with meaningful, actionable support.

A huge thank you to Laura and the wider Yorda team for continuing this partnership - and for the ongoing impact it’s having across our Westcoast community.

Westcoast employees took on the challenge of stepping into the ring for our Charity Sumo Suit Showdown in Theale.

In support of our Charity of the Year, Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association (Reading and West Berkshire), colleagues battled it out in true sumo style - all for a fantastic cause. The charity provides vital support to people living with MND, as well as their families and carers.

Combined with our Sumo Run challenge in Nottingham, we’re proud to share that we’ve raised an amazing match-funded total amount of £1,740 - no light-weight fundraising here 👏

Well done to everyone involved! A huge thank you to everyone who donated, supported, and took part.

Some of the Westcoast team recently visited the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association Reading & West Berks Drop-In - and we’re incredibly grateful to MNDA for such a warm, open welcome.

As our Charity of the Year, it was important to see the impact of their work first-hand. With no cure for MND, these sessions are vital - providing a safe, supportive space for people living with MND, as well as their friends, family, and carers, to connect, share experiences, and access practical advice.

We met volunteers, fundraisers, people living with MND, and their loved ones, and heard how beneficial these sessions are. Brian shared how much he gains from attending - from learning about adaptations to supporting others through shared experiences. The importance of this community, especially for carers, was clear.

It was also inspiring to meet Mary, who founded the group over 40 years ago following her husband’s diagnosis. Everyone in the room had a personal connection to MND, making it a deeply moving experience.

Seeing the realities of MND up close reinforced how crucial these groups are, and has left us even more motivated to continue fundraising and support MNDA.

Thank you again for welcoming us - we learned so much and are proud to support such an important cause.

Charlie Dyson, SMB Account Manager, volunteered to have his head shaved - right down to the skin, with a razor! - all to raise money for our Charity of the Year, the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.

He was joined and championed by Claire Maslen, who nominated the charity and has been a driving force behind our fundraising from day one.

What’s been truly inspiring is how the whole team has rallied around. Since announcing our partnership, more colleagues have come forward to share how their loved ones have been affected by Motor Neurone Disease.

Every day in the UK, six people lose their lives to MND. And right now, there is still no cure - which makes awareness and fundraising even more vital.

Charlie has already raised a phenomenal £646! Support him here: https://ow.ly/rhi750YZzJO

And a huge shout‑out to Claire, who also organised a brilliant Easter raffle with a giant hamper up for grabs - raising £432.49!

Even better… both fundraising efforts will be matched by Westcoast - meaning our current total now stands at an amazing £2,068.98!

A huge thank you to everyone who’s donated, supported, or shared. Together, we’re making a real impact.

The Story Behind Our Charity of the Year 🧡

At Westcoast, supporting both our people and our local community is at the heart of what we do. We’re proud to support the Motor Neurone Disease Association (Reading & West Berkshire branch), and we want to share why this cause is so close to our hearts.

For our colleague Claire, this isn’t just a charity - it’s deeply personal. After losing her close friend Helen to MND, she saw first-hand the difference the charity makes to families during the toughest times. That experience inspired her to nominate them.

In May, Claire will be taking on a 30-mile walking challenge - just one of the many ways we’ll be raising funds and awareness this year.

We look forward to making a difference, supporting vital care, guidance, and research for those impacted by this devastating disease.
