First big stainless job up on the table for prep, and we've treated ourselves to laser tube cut parts for perfect fit-up~
We can process stainless in-house, but without some pretty serious kit this is actually one of the most economical options for big projects like this, with none of the risks of mis-cutting parts, to boot. Can't wait to get welding.

Architectural ironwork!

It's really hard to take a nice picture of a black rectangle in a small alley, but very happy with the end result of this gate install. A nice tall gate with an angled jamb to fill the awkward aperture, purpose-made for the customer's existing lock hardware, and swinging on rod-end bearings and custom stainless brackets for years of squeak-free operation, we hope.

I'm not planning on building massive fences in my tiny workshop any time soon, but if you've got something a bit odd and interesting that needs making, reach out.

Kieran approached me about the metalwork for this sign, and it sounded like an interesting challenge, particularly as I don't have an oxy-fuel setup. As it was, I managed it with some careful TIG heating and an improvised bend fork setup on the fixture table. The only problem was that now I want to make more! That and avoiding setting the template on fire.

Not my usual wheelhouse, but just finished off the woodwork on this bench base I made for some friends.
They had an enormous but poorly-built table made out of solid Indian rosewood or mango wood, something of that ilk. The top had developed a split at one of the joints, but luckily at the perfect width to resaw into a bench seat. We were originally going to put it on hairpin legs or similar, but then this beautiful table base with wrought feet was offered up, and I suggested I design the bench to match.
I recreated the arcs in CAD to adjust to the right dimensions while maintaining the shape, then welded them up from laser-cut parts. The seat and back are supported with steel channel, and I glued up the original table apron to make slotted stretchers, to avoid the top splitting in the future. Fingers crossed this should outlast me

My metalworking practice is a natural extension of my love for all things manual and mechanical; the act of creating something useful, beautiful and lasting from our planet's materials, transformed; working with my body and my brain both; "nurturing what exists" and ensuring what is new is needed, appreciated, and renewable at end of life.

In symphony with that, I present these photos of my workspace, taken with the Pentax SLR passed to me from my mum, on expired Eastman cine-film stock.

If any of this resonates with you, get in touch. Or, if you simply want something nice made out of metal, also get in touch. We're open for commission.
