A proper restoration job completed at AP Welding & Fabrication, and this one was a big task from the moment it rolled into the workshop.
The original sills were hiding far more rust than expected. Once I opened everything up, it became clear the inner structure had suffered too. Surface rust is one thing, but when it reaches the framework, you either do it properly or not at all.
So I stripped it right back.
Every weakened section was cut out cleanly, right down to solid, healthy metal. No shortcuts, no plating over rust, no temporary fixes.
From there, I set about rebuilding the structure piece by piece.
I fabricated brand new door step panels, shaped and fitted to match the original profile.
New sills were made to replace the ones that were too far gone.
And the lower rear quarter panels were remade and welded in, giving the whole area the strength and alignment it should have had.
It’s the kind of job that takes time, precision, and a real understanding of how the vehicle was built in the first place. But the end result is worth it. Safe, solid, restored the right way.
If you’ve got rust issues, structural concerns, or need bespoke metalwork, get in touch. I’m always happy to take a look and talk through what needs doing properly.
