Volvo Construction Equipment has announced its intention to close the Rokbak articulated hauler business, with production planned to end in the second half of 2026 (subject to consultation).

Rokbak – and previously Terex Trucks – has been a proud part of Scotland’s engineering community for over 40 years. Rising costs and global trade pressures have unfortunately made the business unsustainable.

Volvo CE will continue supporting Rokbak customers, dealers and employees, with a dedicated team in place to provide parts, service and technical support throughout the transition.

Paul Douglas, Managing Director of Rokbak, said:
“This is an incredibly difficult time for our people and partners. Our focus is on supporting our team and ensuring a smooth transition.”

🌟 Celebrating Scottish Apprenticeship Week: Graeme’s journey at a glance 👇

Graeme began his career in 2014 as a CNC Machinist apprentice, choosing the apprenticeship route to earn while learning. After completing training at EKGTA and studying Manufacturing Engineering through day-release college, he finished his apprenticeship in 2018.

In 2019, Graeme moved into the Development Department, spending nearly 6 years testing and developing new products and building hands-on experience from concept to production.

In June 2025, he stepped into his current role as a Product Manager, where he works closely with cross-functional teams to shape product strategy, analyse performance and deliver value-driven solutions👏

Scottish Apprenticeship Week: Robbie’s journey 🎓👨‍🔧

Robbie joined Rokbak in 2021 straight from school, starting his apprenticeship and quickly proving what hands-on learning can achieve. From mastering everyday engineering tasks to taking on complex, high-impact projects, Robbie has been involved in it all!

His experience ranges from rebuilding a suspension cylinder to supporting major new product development work involving over 300 electrical connections. He’s also played an important role in ISO compliance testing, on-site noise and access assessments, and cost-reduction initiatives.

Robbie was even nominated and shortlisted for Young Person of the Year at the Made in Scotland Awards 🏆

After graduating with his HND in Electrical Engineering last year, Robbie has become a trusted technical voice across the business 👏

🌟 Celebrating Scottish Apprenticeship Week: Reece’s Journey

Starting in a plumbing apprenticeship, Reece faced early redundancy but instead of stepping back, he embraced a health & safety apprenticeship at Rokbak!

Reece recently graduated from his apprenticeship and was named Apprentice of the Year, as voted by his colleagues at the Motherwell site. Now promoted to HSE Advisor, he continues to go above and beyond, helping others and contributing across the organisation.

His journey shows exactly what an apprenticeship is all about: learning on the job, building confidence, and developing skills that last.
