RSE was delighted to host the third annual RWGM WaterAid UK Charity Fishing Event at Lake of Menteith Fisheries in Stirlingshire.

Teams of two from RSE, WGM, and Scottish Water took part in both morning and afternoon fishing sessions, competing to land the highest total catch weight. The first fish caught was weighed, with every fish thereafter contributing an additional 2lbs to each team's overall score.

Congratulations to John Scott and Stuart Downie, who secured first place as this year's champions and Alan Aitchison with the heaviest catch of the day at 4.6lbs!

We were especially pleased to host this year's event during WaterAid Week (1st - 5th of June). Forty-five years ago, the UK water industry founded WaterAid, and since then, more than 30 million people have gained access to clean water.

Together, we continue to support WaterAid's mission of creating sustainable water systems and working towards a future where everyone, everywhere has access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in a day on the water and to Lake of Menteith Fisheries for their support of the event. Thanks to your generosity, we've so far raised an incredible total of £1,470 for WaterAid.

We look forward to seeing everyone back again next year!

Over the past few weeks, we have held graduate programme events for our 2024 and 2025 cohorts, as they progressed through the programme modules.

From team challenges at the Bluesky Experiences Ltd “It’s a Knockout” event to Dragons’ Den-style business pitches, the modules focused on developing collaboration, leadership and commercial awareness.

It was fantastic to see both cohorts build confidence, strengthen teamwork skills and connect with colleagues, mentors and senior leadership from across RSE's UK-wide locations.

This month, our Graduate Programme events continued to support the development of our graduates, as we welcomed the 2025 cohort to Module 2 and the 2024 cohort to Module 4 of the programme. Our team had a fantastic day at the annual East Hub Charity Golf Day held at Ladybank Golf Course in Fife.

The event brought together teams from RSE, Morrison Construction, Scottish Water, and several of our valued DV2 supply chain partners, with a total of 11 teams competing in a Texas Scramble format.

It was great to see so many people attending to support Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS), while enjoying some friendly competition and networking throughout the day.

We’re delighted to share that the event has raised an incredible £8,500 for CHAS, a brilliant achievement and testament to everyone’s generosity.

A huge thank you to all who took part, contributed, and helped make the day a success in support of such an important charity.

As Water Saving Week 2026 comes to a close, we’re highlighting how innovation can help protect our precious water sources for the benefit of wildlife.

Through the work of Biomatrix Water floating wetland ecosystems are restoring habitats and bringing biodiversity back to waterways like the River Clyde.

From nesting swans to returning kingfishers and otters, the results speak for themselves and act as a reminder of why we should implement important initiatives to respect and save water.

RSE was proud to sponsor the annual Maggie’s Golf Day held at Cabot Highlands Castle Stuart golf course last Friday. With great weather, the day was a success in support of an incredible cause.

Maggie's Highlands provides vital support to people diagnosed with and living with cancer at any stage. It offers a welcoming space where individuals can meet others, access expert guidance from NHS-trained specialists, and find comfort during challenging times. Maggie’s also supports family and friends, acting as a true refuge for all those affected.

We were delighted to continue our support of this special event and to see it go from strength to strength, with the funds raised from this year’s golf day contributing towards maintaining the invaluable services provided by Maggie's Centres.

A huge well done to the Maggie’s team for organising such a memorable day for the RSE team and all the other golfers that took part, enjoyed the course, and helped make a real difference!

This week marks the start of Water Saving Week, a Waterwise annual campaign that highlights the importance of using water efficiently and responsibly.

With increasing pressure on water systems from climate change, population growth, increased infrastructure, and impermeable surfaces, water resources are being pushed to their limits.

This year’s theme is Protect Water for Wildlife, which highlights the vital connections between water and nature.

RSE plays a direct role in protecting water resources and the environments that depend on them.

Through the design, delivery and operations of water and wastewater solutions, RSE supports:

💧 Protection of watercourses and their habitats

💧 Improved water quality and environmental compliance

💧 Innovation in nature-based solutions for water treatment

For those working in the water industry, Water Saving Week is a key moment to reflect on the role we all play in managing water sustainably across the entire water cycle.

We’re delighted to share that RSE has been shortlisted for two categories at this year’s Utility Week Water Industry Awards 2026, both in collaboration with Scottish Water .

RSE has been shortlisted for the Drinking Water Initiative of the Year award for the 'Modular Upgrade of Eela Water Treatment Works Driving Industry Innovation'.

The Eela WTW demonstrates a highly innovative and productised approach to water treatment, combining advanced ceramic membrane technology with modular design and digital delivery.

RSE has also been shortlisted for the Sustainability Award for the Timber Modular Build (TMB®) solution as a key net zero driver for River Basin Management Plan (RBMP) projects.

Characterised by modular and off-site construction with plug-and-play capabilities, the TMB® provides a sustainable alternative to carbon-intensive materials, which has been extensively deployed across 17 Scottish Water RBMP projects.

Congratulations to all the award category finalists! Our teams look forward to attending the awards evening on the 24th of June in Birmingham and celebrating the outstanding achievements taking place across the water sector.

Our Sustainability team recently visited ReBOOT in Forres, with our IT solutions partner Accord, to view the amazing work of ReBOOT who have been engaged to help reduce and recycle IT equipment across our Inverness and Muir of Ord facilities.

IT equipment is one of the fastest-growing waste streams. In Scotland alone, approximately 1.6 million tonnes of electrical waste is produced each year (Scottish Official Waste Statistics).

Not only are there environmental benefits of repairing, reusing and recycling the equipment but during their visit, the team discovered that it has a huge social impact.

At ReBOOT, local volunteers learn new IT repair skills as well as soft skills, especially for younger work experience volunteers. Once refurbished, the IT equipment is donated to local community groups, giving our IT waste a new lease of life.

ReBOOT also ensures the safe destruction, traceability, and material recycling of hard drives to ensure full ISO27001 cybersecurity compliance.

This is an amazing partnership between RSE’s IT services provider, Accord, and ReBOOT, which strongly ties in with our ESG goals to reduce waste and increase recyclability, as well as support local community initiatives.
