Hallo again people with vices... apologies for not being online for a while... its been a busy period outside of vices for me. But things are beginning to settle down again. Enjoy these shots of that Samsonia 38a. ☝️next post up.
We're onto a massive Woden 190/8a now. But it needs some work. See you all again soon.

Good morning, people.
Well it's John Company that's undergoing a bit of a revamp this weekend. I've accumulated so much c*ap over the last five years. So I've decided to strip out the workshop and have a clearout. There is sooo much rubbish...there's new racking for the tools and there's generally going to be so much more space... Its going to take a few days. Anyway. The Samsonia 38a is finished, just awaiting the arrival of the new jaws. Once they're fitted, photos here first.

Picked this up late last year. Although filthy and neglected, it was in very good condition. Soon found out Record 24s are very heavy, weighing in at 80lbs. After a Christmas of flu and illness and a couple of weeks of recovery JCV&C is refurbishing vices again. Stay tuned, we have a very large Parkinson and the biggest of the Samsonias coming up, along with another record 74 and and incredibly rare 1922 Bayliss 3 piece.
Like and share, please, it really helps keep the lights on at JCV&C

Well this is a first for JCV&C...I was asked to restore a Woden E/8a, a very heavy 6inch vice. It was still in original blue paint with a very sloppily applied coat of red that had mostly peeled off, topped off with a nasty coat of tarry dust laden grease.
The vice hade suffered some abuse coupled with some botched repairs to the quickslide mechanism. After a two hr fight with the quickslide this evening, it's resplendent in its boiled linseed finish. It's a gorgeous piece with beautifully designed castings and I've put an E8 on my to acquire list. I will miss this old english veteran when it goes back to its owner.

And for my next trick ... well let's see what happens!

Here's something a little different... a record no 551 tool table with a no 84 vice. The table is factory drilled for a no3. So rather than drilling more holes, I used this wooden plinth to convert it to the 84
