We were recently proud to support the Chetney Marsh V1 flying bomb excavation by supplying one of our Komatsu PC14 R-3 mini diggers to the project.

➡️ Our excavator carefully removed the overlying material.
➡️ Archaeologists and volunteers then exposed the outline of the V1 flying bomb by hand.
➡️ The V1's position, orientation and angle of impact were carefully recorded.
➡️ The remains were recovered for further investigation and conservation.

The excavation gave researchers a rare opportunity to investigate a V1 flying bomb that had wing-tipped into the ground before detonating, with remarkably well-preserved remains helping to shed new light on the weapon and its impact.

Ever wondered what happens when a mini digger meets an archaeological dig? 👀

One of our Komatsu PC14 R-3 mini diggers swapped construction sites for an archaeological excavation at Chetney Marsh, near Sittingbourne in Kent. As proud sponsors of Research Resource Archaeology, we provided a mini digger to support their search for the remains of a Second World War V1 flying bomb.

From carefully removing layers of soil to watching incredible discoveries emerge, it was amazing to see archaeology and machinery working together to uncover a piece of history. ⛏️
