Pontikus - Global Marine Registry

Pontikus - Global Marine Registry Pontikus is a curated marine registry for sea lovers, coastal experts, and shoreline businesses. They fall for something specific. One Registry.

Find port cities, seaside resorts, coast paths, sustainable seafood, maritime terms, log entries, marina markets, dockside deals, digital services and more .. The Deep Water
Nobody falls in love with a coastline they found on a generic travel website. A stone harbour at a particular state of tide. A fish market that has worked the same dock for three generations. A master boatbuilder whose hull kn

owledge spans a century and still smells of timber and salt. That kind of coastal intelligence lives in real seafaring communities and harbour towns, not in stock photos. It sits with the inshore fisher who reads a reef the way most people read a road. It belongs to the maritime lawyer who knows the legal architecture of working ports, the marine biologist counting oceanic wildlife along a fragile stretch of shore, and the cliffside bed and breakfast that has been quietly excellent for twenty years yet invisible online. The coast has always known things the internet has never caught up with: surfside economies behind the beachfront industries, the portside commerce that keeps shoreline jobs alive, the coastal resilience work happening in the background while tourists chase sunsets. Pontikus is where that changes. Boundless Horizon. Pontikus is the Local Marine Registry built for people who actually know the water β€” and for those who want to learn from them. No corporate gloss, no filler, no algorithmic noise. Just 18 coastal regions across the British Isles, Atlantic Europe, the Mediterranean, East Africa, Asia Pacific, and North America, connected by one clear chart for coastal tourism, seafood sustainability, shoreline protection, and marine conservation.

🐠 What if a coral reef were an underwater neighbourhood?

Its β€œrooms” are not built with bricks. Branching corals form narrow corridors and crevices, while layered, plate-like corals create ledges and shaded overhangs. Together, these structures provide shelter and feeding spaces for fish, shrimp and other marine life: each species finding its own way through the reef’s living architecture.

That habitat complexity is one reason healthy reefs matter. The IUCN-listed 11th Pacific Islands Conference on Nature Conservation takes place in NoumΓ©a from 7–11 September 2026, bringing regional attention to protecting the Pacific’s remarkable ecosystems.

If you could explore one reef detail, would you choose a branching coral passage, a shaded ledge, or the busy open-water edge? Tell us below! 🌊

A reef is more than a colourful seascape. πŸͺΈπŸŒŠ

Coral reefs build complex habitat for many marine organisms, including reef fish and other species that depend on these underwater structures for shelter, feeding and nursery grounds.

For island communities, healthy reefs are closely connected to everyday life: supporting food, coastal livelihoods, cultural connections and, in many places, protection from wave energy. Reef conservation is therefore also community and livelihood work.

This week, conservation leaders and practitioners are meeting in Noumea for the IUCN-listed 11th Pacific Islands Conference on Nature Conservation, taking place from 7–11 September 2026. The gathering is focused on regional action for a resilient future for Pacific people and nature.

Belize reaffirmed its commitment to advancing sustainable maritime development through its participation in the 22nd Session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Intersessional Working Group on Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Ships (ISWG-GHG 22), held at IMO Headquarters in London from 1–4 September 2026.

Representing Belize were Ms. Jaeda Sutherland of the Belize Port Authority (BPA), together with Mr. Anique Sabal and Ms. Darlin Gaitan of the International Merchant Marine Registry of Belize (Immarbe Belize). The Belize delegation participated alongside representatives from across the Caribbean and the wider international maritime community during deliberations involving more than 1,000 delegates from around the world.

The session represented an important stage in the IMO’s ongoing work to develop and advance international regulatory measures aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from international shipping. Discussions focused on strengthening the global maritime sector’s response to climate change and supporting the transition towards a more sustainable, resilient, and lower-carbon shipping industry.

Belize’s active engagement at the IMO reflects its continued commitment to contributing meaningfully to the development of international maritime policy and regulatory frameworks. As a maritime nation and Small Island Developing State, Belize recognizes the importance of ensuring that global measures to decarbonize international shipping take into account the economic realities, developmental priorities, and unique vulnerabilities of developing countries and SIDS.

Through its continued participation in key IMO processes, Belize is strengthening its position within the international maritime community and ensuring that its national interests, as well as the broader concerns of developing and vulnerable maritime nations, remain represented in global policy discussions.

Belize remains committed to constructive international cooperation and to supporting the advancement of a maritime sector that is environmentally responsible, economically sustainable, resilient, and capable of meeting the evolving challenges of the global shipping industry.

The lake was the battlefield: and control of it changed the course of the War of 1812. βš“πŸŒŠ

On 10 September 1813, Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry’s U.S. squadron defeated the British squadron at the Battle of Lake Erie, securing U.S. control of the lake.

When Perry’s flagship, Lawrence, was disabled, he transferred his flag to Niagara and continued the fight. The victory gave U.S. forces strategic control of Lake Erie, supporting operations in the western theatre and contributing to the recapture of Detroit.

Perry’s message captured the moment: β€œWe have met the enemy and they are ours.”

Which detail stands out most to you: the fleet built in difficult conditions, Perry’s transfer between ships, or the wider strategic impact of the victory? Tell us in the comments.

🌊 Two real ocean events are shaping the coastal conversation this week.

From Monday 7 September, marine scientists, conservation specialists, policymakers and coastal voices will be meeting across two important gatherings:

πŸ”Ή Bangor, UK : the Challenger Society for Marine Science Conference, running from 7–11 September 2026.

πŸ”Ή NoumΓ©a, New Caledonia : the IUCN 11th Pacific Islands Conference on Nature Conservation, also taking place from 7–11 September 2026.

One gathering centres on marine science and ocean knowledge. The other brings Pacific conservation, biodiversity and nature-based action into focus. Together, they reflect the breadth of today’s coastal priorities: from research and evidence to community-led stewardship and practical conservation.

If you could take one coastal topic to either gathering, what would it be?
