40 years after Dave curated the 'Garage Sound of Deepest New York' series featuring the cream of the crop of American US Garage, the series ran for 4 instalments. Dave re-ignites the torch to bear once more and champion the sound more locally, the leafy area of Crouch End, London, to be precise. This four tracker is a testament to the knowledge and expertise Dave Lee has with this particular soulful sound & genre. First up is 'Everybody Needs Somebody' with its powerhouse gospel vocal performance from Rance backed up with swathing chords, piano & organ work by Matt Cooper and Dave's swinging heavy drums. 'Every Second Every Minute Every Hour' is next from Dave Under, his new Hillman Avenger alias, who takes things in a more jazz funk direction, with masterful piano & brass work and scorching synth solo as the cherry on top. 'Our Love' is an updated rework of a vintage Republic Records track featuring the dynamic vocals of AJ Lewis. Bouncy house drums backbone the syncopated chord stabs before a gear change around the halfway mark signals a big heads down, hands up moment. Before the famous clock tower of Crouch End strikes 12, we have time for one more cut by the name of 'No Excuses' featuring the legend that is Lifford, who does what he does best, soulful yet mighty vocals. This is a peak time, feel-good slab of the Garage house that would have maybe made it onto one of Dave's original comps back in the day.

Prince Fatty knows how to honour a classic jam without just replaying it, but also with adding too much. William DeVaughn's original, made legendary by its use by Massive Attack in their early trip-hop era, is soul-warm and instantly recognisable, but handing it to Earl 16 shifts everything into rich reggae territory that rolls at its own inviting pace. His voice carries real gravity here and it is backed by a tight, dubbed-out band featuring Carlton "Bubblers" Ogilvie on keys and Winston "Horseman" Williams driving the rhythm. The dub version on the flip is just as essential and strips things back to bass and space in classic Fatty style. A top reissue of a lovely reggae reinterpretation.

Like many DJs, Hifi Sean makes many edits and reworks, using them as secret weapons in his sets. After years of scalpel work, he's finally decided to let Joe Public get their hands on selected nuggets from the archive via a series of 12" singles. For the series debut, he gives us 'Amy' - a lightly reframed, disco-style take on a genuine gem from a late, great British artist. There are two takes: the A-side full vocal version, which lightly beefs up the original drums and bass for a more club-centric feel while utilising the original mix's strings, horns and, of course, vocals, and an equally as impressive instrumental 'Dub'. Both takes have the feel of end of night anthems - a familiar favourite given a classy dancefloor treatment. We can't wait to hear what he drops next.

Yet another reissue of this enduring classic. Legendary Miami songstress Gwen McCrae had plenty of huge hits in her arsenal, from '90% Of Me Is You' to 'It's Worth The Hurt.' Her biggest tune by far is the sure fire dance floor heater 'Keep The Fire Burning.' The strident disco funk beats, the soaring vocal and the impossible warmth and soul of it all never fail to make a mark. Here it is backed with the more slow and deep cut funk of 'Funky Sensation,' which gets those hips swinging and hands clapping.

This all French affairs finds the eponymous Politics Of Dancing label head hook up with deep house head Djebali for a quartet of kicking minimal tech sounds. The swirling, circular bass of 'The Moment' soon gets your fists pumping, then 'Question' is a little more loose and wobbly - the fleshy bass and snappy snares contrasting one another nicely. On the flip, 'Ball Lightning' starts off with ascending synth lines and urgency in the grooves that will ensure plenty of locked-in dancers with withering sci-fi motifs adding a little cosmic escapism. The closer 'Whip' is the most fun sound - characterful synths and drums that duck and dive make for fresh house with a relentless groove.
