Let's talk torque wrenches.

Without proper and professional torque wrench calibration, you can’t be confident your torque tool is delivering precise tightening or loosening of bolts, nuts, and other fasteners.

With some expert input from our lab calibration engineer Steven Parrott, we've produced this guide (see link at the bottom of this post) that delves into the mechanics of calibrating torque wrenches.

Unless requested, our torque wrench calibration service is based on the requirements of the latest ISO standard for torque calibration ISO 6789-1:2017.

Another fantastic recruit for the AML army. We're delighted to officially announce the arrival of Ian Bishop, who has taken on the role as Internal Sales Consultant.

Known affectionately as "Bish", Ian boasts a strong sales background, notably in the automotive industry, including spells flogging cars for the likes of BYD, Mazda, and Vauxhall. He's also the husband of fellow sales star Jess Bishop.

Ian has made a really positive start in the short time he's been here, with his his strong communication skills, confidence, and hunger to learn helping build rapport and loyalty with our ever-growing customer base.

Last week, our engineer Gav Blurton went to National Army Museum in Westminster to calibrate and service their display chamber humidity devices.

These were miniClima EBC constant humidity devices used to control the humidity within the displays. This prevents decay and helps keep the artifacts in tip-top condition.

Gav's visit coincided with "The Conflict in Europe" gallery, which explores the army’s role in maintaining the balance of power in Europe from the 1700s to the present day, as well as how war on the Continent has affected the British Isles.

Thanks to Gavin for these great pics and to the National Army Museum for trusting our expert team with the complexities of calibration.

Fresh off the back of Gavin Blurton's arrival at the company, AML are delighted to announce that Sabann Allen has joined our ever-growing onsite team as a Calibration Engineer.

Sabann began his engineering career after completing a Level Three NVQ, progressing through a three-year apprenticeship while working within industry. Here, he developed experience across several calibration disciplines, including: Dimensional, Temperature, Electrical, Torque, and Force.

As his experience developed, Sabann took on additional responsibility, including helping maintain UKAS accreditation within the dimensional department by becoming a UKAS authorised signatory. Alongside his technical role, he also gained experience supporting the commercial side of the business, contributing to sales activity and customer engagement.

Outside of work, Sabann enjoys an active, outdoor lifestyle. His interests include hiking, training, and running. He’s also a keen listener of audiobooks, valuing continuous learning both professionally and personally.

Absolutely delighted to officially welcome Gavin Blurton to the AML Army.

'Gav' joined us a few months back from CoMech Metrology and brings a wealth of experience. He's hit the ground running, travelling up and down the country carrying out a variety of calibration work for our customers, including dimensional, electrical, and pressure.

With the addition of Gavin to the team, AML is poised to enhance its onsite calibration capabilities and further expand its market presence.

Away from all-things calibration, you'll probably find Gavin on an activity weekend with his partner and kids, or having a game of snooker or pool. I've not asked Gav if he's made a 147 yet, but just like calibration, snooker is all about extreme precision.🎱

In September 2025, AML Instruments supplied and helped set up a Vector U200 Uniaxial Non-Contact Extensometer (manufactured by Imetrum Ltd) to the Williams Research Group based at University of Oxford.

It’s already proven helpful for some of their projects and materials, with our engineers on hand to support the team with ongoing training to ensure safe and efficient operation of the instrument.

They have some big projects pencilled in for the coming months, which will require heavy usage of the Vector, so we look forward to finding out more about the application types it’s involved in and how it helps optimise their test processes.

Huge thanks to Dr Gemma Fereday-Trott and the Williams Research Group team for trusting us to find the right solution for their testing needs and we look forward to continuing our partnership in 2026.

Just before Christmas, our Senior Leadership Team took a trip down the road to Uncle Henry’s for a fun, insightful, and fascinating workshop on the four Colour Energies.

Expertly delivered by David Williams from 3W Growth Ltd, it was hugely beneficial to learn how individual team members get their energy from different places correlating with their profiles.

The colour energies are the essential building blocks of team and personal effectiveness, helping improve communication, engage employees, and developing vital self-awareness of how our behaviour may be affecting those around us that are different to us.

If you take a look at the whiteboard images below, each colour profile was given the task of planning a team-building event, and true to the profiles, each group lived up to their respective way of thinking (scary eh!)

Going forward, we’re going to be using this powerful tool to transform our team dynamics by building positive, productive relationships at AML HQ.
