Hulland Herald: please can you help with delivery?

The latest edition is currently dropping through letter boxes throughout the villages and outlying homes within the civil parish.

The magazine is produced every three months and is circulated to over 650 properties by neighbours who work together as a team.

We are currently in need of someone to deliver magazines to 24 outlying houses and farms along the Belper Road and Mercaston Lane.

If you feel able to volunteer, please contact Steve Dunning on [email protected]

A message from Public Health…

Ready to quit for good?

Stoptober is just around the corner, giving people across the country the opportunity to join thousands of others taking their first steps towards a smoke free future. To mark the national quit smoking campaign, Derbyshire County Council is encouraging residents to access the free support available through its specialist stop smoking service. Live Life Better Derbyshire, Derbyshire County Council’s health and wellbeing service, provides 12 weeks of free stop smoking support for Derbyshire residents aged 12 and above. The service includes advice and guidance from trained stop smoking specialists, access to stop smoking medications, free ni****ne replacement therapy (NRT), and a dedicated Facebook support group. Adults aged 18 and over can also access vapes as a quitting aid.

The Live Life Better Derbyshire team will be carrying out drop-in stop smoking support events across Derbyshire throughout October. Find where they will be online here.
For more information about the free stop smoking service, call 0800 085 2299 or visit www.livelifebetterderbyshire.org.uk/stopsmoking.

What's left of those wooden ramps with nails sticking out has been gathered together in the playing fields and will be removed unless the owners collect them very soon. The Parish Council has some understanding of teenagers on mountain bikes. However, we also need to safeguard families with young children.

Following last week's Parish Council meeting the Council have made the following comments on the Alport Close planning application:

Hulland Ward Parish Council strongly object to this proposal and would like to make the following comments:
1. The application states that Hulland Ward has easy access to services and facilities which help the children live independently, but this is not the case Hulland Ward has an infrequent bus service to the village and no Health Centre.
2. It is not clear from the application about how many members of staff will be required at any one time, as the application contradicts itself: items 3.2 and 5.6 state different numbers of staff.
3. Carers on a shift pattern, visiting therapists and social workers, will all need to arrive by car due to lack of a frequent bus service, this will cause noise, disruption and possible parking issues for other residents.
4. There will be considerable risk of noise to adjoining neighbours.
5. There is no “Telford Road” in Hulland Ward or anywhere near this property.
6. The change in use may adversely impact the quality of lives of the adjoining neighbours.
7. The Parish Council feel they must object very strongly to this application as they have a duty of care for existing residents, many of whom are elderly and there are also safeguarding concerns for the children living nearby and attending the primary school in the village.
8. Seventeen residents attended a meeting of the Parish Council on 6th July, and they were united in strongly objecting to the change of use for this house
We acknowledge that vulnerable children need a fresh start but placing them in a quiet area with no supporting facilities is not the right place for them, this could result in social isolation.

Hedge Cutting Co-operative

Membership forms for the ‘Hulland Ward Hedge Cutting Cooperative' were circulated in June, with the first cut scheduled for mid-July. So far 20 households, plus the telephone exchange, have signed up stretching between Dog Lane and Moss Lane. Please remember the state of the hedges backing on to the Main Road remains the responsibility of individual householders – this service is organised by the Parish Council, but paid for by members of the cooperative, to assist in keeping pavements clear for pedestrians.

☀️BIN COLLECTION UPDATE ☀️

With high temperatures forecast this week, the waste & recycling crews will start collections from 6:00am, beginning tomorrow (Tuesday).

What this means for residents:
• Please put your bin out the night before, or before 6:00am on your collection day.
• If you’re waiting for a missed bin, leave it out – crews may arrive earlier than usual.
• Please help us spread the word to friends, family, and neighbours, especially those not on social media.

Looking out for our crews:
While we all enjoy the sunshine, working in extreme heat can be challenging and potentially dangerous for our collection teams. Starting earlier helps keep them safe.

If you would like to show your appreciation, a small gesture such as offering a cold drink or an ice lolly on a hot day would be hugely appreciated by the crews – it really does make a difference!

Hot weather tip:
Please remember to keep your bins cleaned and washed out, as heat can quickly cause unpleasant smells.

Thank you for your continued support.
