Interior handles = built for sheltered use, lighter materials, simple latch mechanisms.

Exterior handles = built for weather exposure, robust locking, corrosion-resistant materials.

Fit an interior handle on an external door and it degrades fast — the metal corrodes, the finish peels, the mechanism weakens.

Rose vs backplate — it's one of the most common door handle questions.

Here's the short version:

Rose handles = small circular plate, all fixings hidden. Clean and minimal.

Backplate handles = longer rectangular plate, fixings visible. More traditional.

Where it matters: if you're replacing old hardware, a backplate covers the previous screw holes. A rose plate might not.
