Guildford Audio Annual Audio Event 2026

We are pleased to announce the return of our annual show in conjunction with Absolute Sounds. The event will take place at the Thatchers Hotel near Guildford over the weekend of July 4th and 5th 2026. (Link below)

The equipment on show will include many new items from the likes of Audio Research coupled with outstanding products from Absolute Sounds portfolio. The dCS Vêrese will be centre stage on the main system as well as my personal Otari studio tape recorders that were utilised by UB40 in their heyday.

The whole event will be relaxed and easy going, many representatives from the distributor will be present as I hope from the likes of dCS (TBC). The format should be familiar to the many of you who visited our shows near Reading for many years.

As has always been the case, the event is free of charge, the hotel has outstanding facilities with large amounts of comfortable seating both indoors and outdoors. I hope It will set a new standard for one of our previously well received events. For those wishing to stay over, I hope to be able to announce a reduced rate for accommodation.

All in all, it should be a great show, and I look forward to meeting up with many of you over the weekend, you may even get a chance to hear some

Guildford Audio Show Update

Just a quick confirmation of the show dates, it will take place on the 4th and 5th July 2026, more details to follow but at this stage the equipment list is starting to look extensive as it always was.

Gents, I am proposing to run one of my own shows similar to the ones I used to run in Reading some years ago, it will be located close to Guildford and supported by Absolute Sounds. Entrance and parking will be free of charge and located in a fabulous hotel with exceptional facilities. As before, there will be loads of kit there including the dCS Verese (dCS may well be in attendance - just confirming dates)

As you can image from the numbers of people who attended my previous shows, the feedback was very positive and I want to make it just such an event. I aim to have my studio Otari tape recorders there (Ex UB40) using various master tapes I have acquired.

I will be posting more information soon and if possible I would love to hear from any of you who may wish to attend so that I can gauge numbers - this will enable me to give the hotel a heads up since the last time I ran a show, the number were significant.

I have agreed a discounted rate for people wishing the stay at the hotel and I may even look towards some sort of special event on the Saturday evening should there be enough interest - what this may entail depends on the amount of interest shown.

Anyway, I am sure as before, it will be a great fun event without any pressure - those who know me well will confirm how relaxed I am.

Let me have some feedback and I will keep you all informed. PS Gavin will be there so my apologies about his music !!

Just arrived here is the new Shunyata Delta X Power Distribution unit, much improved over the previous version and with an additional socket. I have the very first one in the UK and I can assure you with trickle down technology from the more expensive versions, these are going to surprise people as to the enhanced performance.

Today's task is running in some of the fabulous new Audio Research components, the LS2 Preamplifier and S-200 Stereo Power Amplifier. I have to say, if this is the quality of the new components I am astounded by the sound they produce. The prices are respectable and I am sure will be extremely well received. If you wish to hear them for yourself then drop me a line. I have the first ones in the UK and soon to be joined by the just announced Reference 7 Preamp, that I am looking forward to immensely.

Great news for SME turntable owners, Brian Laker has setup his own company to support their products (Mr SME). This has to be the best news anyone could ask for, see the note from Brian below.

After 38 years with SME Ltd, renowned for the Best Pick arms in the world, Brian has launched his own company to service & repair SME pick up arms . Recognized globally as
“Mr SME,” he was the primary advisor for all SME-related repairs, especially tone arms.

Brian began his career in HiFi and TV repair after time at Worthing College of Technology. He purchased his own SME 3009 SII Improved arm at age17, sparking his long association with the brand. Following a stint in telecommunications, he joined SME in 1987 as an assembly technician, progressing to team leader and later Assembly and Service Manager until November 2025.

During his tenure, Brian also became Quality Manager and managed the Electroplating department. He contributed significantly to the design and development of several SME
turntable models, including taking a lead on electronics partnerships for new MK 2 models.

Now independent, Brian supports SME owners worldwide with service and repairs and offers installation help in southern UK. Based just a few miles from the SME factory in the heart of
rural Sussex Uk.

Brian’s own workshop is fully equipped with all tooling and custom measuring capabilities
to achieve that back to new sonic experience.

All tone arms returned will be fully stripped down and rebuilt using new wiring and bearings
accurately installed using precise jigging and calibration equipment.
