While replacing these front brake discs and pads I found one of the caliper slides had seized solid, this can cause poor braking and uneven wear on the pads. I removed the seized pin cleaned it up and cleaned the caliper holder then refit it all back together using anti seize grease to ensure it has a long service life. I got called to a machine after it was struggling to start and sounded rough while running. I suspected the head gasket had gone and it was loosing compression through the cooling system, using the pressure tester I found the cooling system would not hold pressure and when you turned the engine over it caused spikes in pressure on the tester proving that that head gasket had failed. Once I got the cylinder head off I found there was also a crack in the cylinder head. We got a gasket kit and reconditioned cylinder head for it all then flushed the coolant system to clean all the debris and carbon from the system, replaced the coolant and test ran.

This horse box has just been in for repair
The back plates had rotted though over time so had to be cut off and new ones welded on. This trailer also had rotted through on the bottom of the ramps which could have injured the horse if it fell through the ramp, due to the customer not using the horse box often we came up with the idea to replace the bottom parts of the ramp meaning we only required one 8x4 sheet of board instead of 2 full ramps which has saved a lot of money and while fitting it I added some supports to the ramps where the joint is.

Regular maintenance of your trailer is very important to help keep it safe and roadworthy, without it linkages can seize up and shoes can wear and delaminate majorly decreasing your brakes capacity to work.
As you can see on this brake the expander which was stuck causing the brakes to be slightly applied all the time wearing the brake shoes down to the metal. New shoes, expander, brake cable and a good clean up and it was all ready for the road again.

We started off this summer with a combine service for a customer while giving the machine a thorough check over I found several worn bearings and split belts replacing these before the start of season will prevent down time and further damage from being caused when the machine is most required.
