Sometimes you just want to make a chair.
Not an ordinary chair, obviously. 😅

It started with steel, heat and a hammer.
Still a work in progress, but I really like where it’s going. The curved backrest and hand-forged details give it a character of its own.

For the seat and backrest, we’re using 2mm natural Mustard Pull-Up leather — full-grain hide treated with oils and waxes. Its beautiful pull-up effect means the colour and character subtly change as the leather is stretched and used.
The leather has its own character — a South American cowhide, traditionally tanned and finished in Italy.
The natural markings, creases and variations are part of what makes the leather unique. Over time, it will develop a rich vintage patina and a story of its own.
Steel shaped by heat and hammer, paired with leather shaped by time.
And yes… you’ll actually be able to sit on it. 😂

Inspired by one of the most recognisable tools of the trade — the hammer.
This November, Black Pine Iron Craft Studio Ltd will be exhibiting at the Selfbuild Ireland for two days.
You’ll be able to see some of our work, have a chat with us, talk about your ideas, get a quote, or even place an order.
We like making things that are a little bit different. Our work isn’t limited to standard designs — if you have an idea, come and talk to us. If you can imagine it, we can work out how to make it!

And this particular piece has already found its next home. ❤️

Crittall-style Double doors-Deep Green with Brass Detailing ✅️

Another bespoke set of Crittall-style double doors, now finished and installed.
The customer chose a deep green powder-coated finish with clear glazing and slim steel sections, creating a light, elegant and transparent look while giving the doorway a strong architectural character.
We added brass detailing throughout the frames, giving the green finish a subtle contrast and a really nice handcrafted feel. Small details like these make a big difference up close.
As always, the installation was finished with the same attention to detail as the fabrication.

Crittall-style steel door taking shape.
The main frames are now coming together, with the internal sections carefully fitted and welded into place.
Piece by piece, the design is starting to look like the finished steel door.
There’s still more work to do — cleaning up the welds, finishing the details, preparing the steel and getting everything ready for the powder-coating.

Just the beginning of another Crittall-style door.

A few lengths of accurately cut steel. It doesn’t look much like a door yet. 😄

It’s always interesting to see where something starts — just pieces of steel and hardware — and then see the finished result.

That transformation is probably one of the best parts of what we do. Taking raw materials and turning them into something that you can be proud of.

And that’s the real pleasure in the work. 🔨🔥

Another beautiful project completed! These bespoke bi-fold gates are designed so each side folds independently and smoothly. Each hinge is fitted with bearings, allowing the heavy steel sections on either side to fold effortlessly. The custom linkages ensure that each side operates reliably and with minimal effort.
To ensure longevity, the gates were hot-dip galvanised and then powder coated, offering maximum corrosion protection and a durable finish.
We’re delighted with the result, and a big thank you to our wonderful customers for trusting us. It was a pleasure bringing their ideas to life.
