100,000 Metal spinning's produced on bespoke DENN CNC

This morning we reached the milestone of 100,000 spinning's that have been produced on our CNC.

Check out our Youtube channel to see the CNC in action:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTSwdSPif6k

The particular part that was being spun to reach the 100,000 milestone and goes through two spinning operations on the CNC.

A mild steel blank was first spun or drafted before it then goes onto to have the 2nd spinning operation to produce the final part, as shown on the right of the image.

The fl**ge of this part is then machined to the required dimensions.

By having a CNC, this enables us to produce high volume parts and guarantee dimensional repeatability.

The CNC can spin parts up to1500mm in dia. from all materials up to and including 5mm st/st, 6mm m/st & 7.00mm Alloy.

3.0mm Mild Steel Colum Shaft Spinning

We received an enquiry from a local fabrication company, who required a part which required spinning but had a very short lead time.

The part required tooling and as we are able to manufacture this in house, we were able to significantly reduce the lead time.

We received an order on the 12th December and had only a week until we closed on the 19th for the Christmas break.

However, our Works Manager was able to get the tooling turned around in record time and we have just completed the manufacture of the 6 spinning's today.

Artec Engineering Precision Metal Spinners has built a reputation for customer service and going the extra mile whilst never compromising on quality.

These parts are another example of our customer service and we are delighted that they will now be ready to go onto site to be installed and our customer has met their deadline.

Here are a pair of service enclosure cover spinning's we have manufactured in 316L stainless steel.

The first operation involved with this spun part was to spin a 2.0mm blank to create the domed shape.

A 10mm thick stainless steel ring was then part machined to fit the dome spinning.

This part also had two lugs and a catch which lasered and then folded.

The machined ring was then welded to the spinning along with the two lugs and catch.

Once the part had been completely welded, the ring was then part machined.

This particular part involved numerous operations such as metal spinning, welding, fabricating and machining.

By completing all of these processes in house, we are able to maintain are high standards and quality, which Artec Engineering Precision Metal Spinners are renowned for in the industry.

End Cap Spinning

Here are some end cap spinning's that we have just produced.

This part starts off as a washer blank, which has a larger centre hole than the standard 8mm hole.

You can see from the video that this spinning is spun in two operations.

The first operation is to spin the parallel and you can see our metal spinning craftsman apply pressure to the rotating blank using a hand tool. The edge of the spinning was skimmed to ensure the correct height.

To create the central recess, this requires the pressure pad to be remove to allow access to the centre of the spinning.

The spinning is taped to avoid it from coming off the lathe.

A hand tool then applies pressure to the internal diameter material to create the recess.

The part is then cleaned before being packaged for dispatch.

1200 dia. tank in 3.0mm Aluminium

We have just finished manufacturing 10 spun 1200mm dia. tanks in 3.0mm Aluminium.

The first stage of the manufacturing process was to create a 1540 dia. blank from a 3.0mm sheet of aluminium.

To do this, two of our machine operatives took a 2 x 4 mtr sheet and cut into squares using a guillotine. The square then went onto the circle shear, which cut a 1540 dia. blank.

A 8mm ctr. hole was then drilled in the blank to allow this to be centralised when it goes onto the spinning lathe.

The 1200 dia. pan was spun using our hydraulic lathe. Operating this lathe, takes great skill and you can see from the video, our experienced metal spinner, forming the shape.

After the parts were spun, they were then cleaned by our metal polishers due to the final use of the part needing a clean finish.

355 dia. spinning produced in 1.5mm brass.

To produce this spinning, we had to first part spin the form before it went through an annealing process to make the metal more malleable to complete the 2nd spinning operation.

Due to weight constraints with the end part, we had to carefully machine the wall thickness to get within the required weight specifications.

Following the machining of the wall thickness, the external face had a scotch brite finish to give a clean finish.

This spinning forms part of a welded assembly, of which we produced two additional parts.

Stainless Steel Hopper Spinning

This stainless steel hopper was produced on our bespoke DENN CNC spinning lathe.

Due to the form of the hopper, the material has to be stretched a long distance across the tool.

As the CNC is fully automated, this can apply the correct amount of pressure to stretch the material enough without splitting.

In addition, with high volume parts, this CNC can produce dimensional repeatability each time.

The machine is also designed to use tooling weighing over 1.3 tonne and will produce high and low volume production runs with world class quality finish and dimensional repeatability.

This DENN bespoke CNC spinning lathe was built to our specification and will produce spinning’s up to 1500mm in dia. from all materials up to and including 5mm st/st, 6mm m/st & 7.00mm Alloy.
