About us:
We are an engineering contracting/consultancy company primarily working with prototype wave and tidal power devices, as well as other small industrial controls projects.
We build control panels and data acquisition boxes using modular industrial PLCs; integrate with motor controllers, hydraulic systems, weather stations, and battery management systems; design networks connecting offshore devices to the cloud via cellular modems, underwater fibre-optics, or VHF radio; and run cloud servers which distil hundreds of gigabytes of high-frequency data into easy-to-read web dashboards.

About the role:
As a junior engineer, you will work with any or all of the above, depending on your background and interests - you may come from an electrical background and wish to learn more about PLCs, or from a traditional computer science background with an interest in electronics.
We are looking for motivated, self-starting individuals who are comfortable picking up new technologies as needed and working on high-level tasks with minimal supervision.

Requirements
• At least National 5/GCSE level education
• Either:
o A qualification of UK level 5 or above – e.g. university degree or HND; or
o Recognised advanced apprenticeship; or
o At least two years’ work experience in the software/electronic/electrical industry; or
o Significant participation in a large open-source project
• A track record of self-directed learning
• Fluency in English
• Programming experience is not required, but you will be expected to learn simple programming as part of the job, so being very comfortable with computers is essential

Useful, but not essential
• Experience with:
o The C and Python programming languages
o Linux server system administration
o Relational databases
o Networking and VPNs
o Amazon Web Services
o PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers)
o Electrical/electronic systems, including design, manufacture, installation, troubleshooting or fault-finding
o AutoCAD Electrical
• Driving license and own vehicle (mileage can be expensed)
• Ideally, you will be comfortable with dogs, as we have a very friendly office Labrador!

Hours and salary range:
For a full-time position, the salary range is dependent on experience. Part time or flexible hours are also available.
During device commissioning or testing, you may be asked to work on-site, or to be available remotely during certain hours.
