Today, 3rd June, marks John Claber’s retirement from FAIRFIELDS.

John was one of the first members of staff at Fairfield Engineering Solutions and has been with the company for five and a half years. He was also the first full time member of the FES Sales Team, playing an important role in supporting the company’s growth from the early days.

Members of the FAIRFIELDS Sales Team, along with some of the SLT, took John out last night to celebrate his retirement and thank him for everything he has contributed over the years.

On behalf of everyone at FAIRFIELDS, we would like to wish John all the very best for a long, happy and well-deserved retirement.

Project Spotlight: Cliff-Side Access Lift Refurbishment

Fairfield Engineering Solutions was recently tasked with inspecting, reporting on, refurbishing, and commissioning a cliff-side access lift for our client.

Operating in a harsh coastal environment had taken its toll, with significant deterioration to both the mechanical and control systems. Evidence of past flooding in the lift pit had also caused the emergency brake to seize and surface rust to form on the winch drum.

After successfully refurbishing and recommissioning the access lift, Fairfield's now continues to provide the client with reliable, ongoing service packages.

We’re proud to share the successful completion of our upgrade works at Godstow Weir B, carried out as part of the Environment Agency‘s Asset Operation, Maintenance, and Response (AOMR) Framework. Our focus was on improving the structure and functionality of the fish and eel pass by installing new stainless steel separation plates, alongside other key improvements.

Key highlights:

🔹 Minimised public impact through early access planning and clear signage

🔹 Environmentally conscious delivery, including solar-powered welfare units and local sourcing of plant/hire

🔹 Streamlined operations, reducing fish pass closure to just 2 weeks

🔹 Structural upgrades to improve long-term durability

🔹 Careful coordination around water levels and wildlife, including inspection and documentation of aquatic species

From temporary sandbagging and sure-grip flooring to final reinstatement and SAT sign-off, this project demonstrated proactive planning, sustainability, and smart sequencing, protecting the environment and ensuring minimal disruption.

A prime example of effective collaboration leading to an efficient and sustainable delivery.

This weekend we held our Fairfields Summer Party, and it was a fantastic day from start to finish. Our employees and their families came together to enjoy great food, fun activities, and plenty of sunshine.

With food from Dukes Pizzas and Reyt Good Burgers, sweet treats, Thaymar's ice cream, and more, there was something for everyone. As well as inflatables, face painting, competitions, and lots of laughs throughout the day.

It was a great opportunity to catch up with colleagues, see some of our team members from across the country, and just enjoy time together outside of work.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success. We're already looking forward to the next one!
