How to retrofit a Victorian railway arch using low-embodied carbon materials and enable periodic inspection and maintenance of existing transport infrastructure?

Over the last 18 months we’ve worked closely with to answer these questions. Our versatile manufactured kit-of-parts construction solution uses repeated, standardised components allowing delivery via a narrow alley (we love a constrained access site!) and rapidly assembled to provide a high performing thermal envelope, demonstrating radically improved energy efficiency, thermal comfort and indoor air quality. The ADEPT®️ system works perfectly in situations like this, using a mixture of standard and bespoke components to create an easily assembled practical work environment nestled inside a cold and austere railway arch.

Part of the Better Futures Innovation Challenge, the project will reduce whole life cycle carbon impacts and offer a sustainable retrofit option for arches across London.

Here’s the HAUS going up at Elemental — after battling storm Claudia en route it was an eight-hour onsite build captured here in under ten seconds.

Our ADEPT system is a h**p-insulated kit-of-parts designed for rapid, precision assembly — and yes, it can also be delivered volumetrically for even faster install on site.

The HAUS at 2025 was more than a showcase — it was a working demonstration of what’s possible when over 40 partners come together to rethink how we build.

Designed using our ADEPT system and constructed on the show floor in under 3 days, the HAUS brought together low-carbon materials, modular design, and integrated MEP solutions — all delivered by a cross-industry team of designers, makers, suppliers and installers.

Thanks to , we’re also able to share the potential environmental impact of this construction approach. The HAUS achieved a 24% reduction in embodied carbon vs. the UK LETI baseline — and NET stored over 7.6 tonnes of biogenic carbon.

This is what collaboration for climate impact looks like.
