📍 ProFab Engineering | Darlington

At ProFab Engineering, we’re continuing to grow — and we’re looking for an experienced Press Operator to join our team in Darlington.

Hours:
Monday to Thursday, 7:00am – 4:45pm (37 hours per week)

What we offer:
✔️ 25 days holiday (including bank holidays)
✔️ Competitive rates of pay (depending on experience)
✔️ 3-month review with the opportunity to progress into a Team Leader role

🔧 Essential Experience & Skills:
• Proven experience operating a CNC press
• Experience using a guillotine
• Ability to accurately programme the press from sheet metal profiles
• Strong organisational skills, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
• Understanding of stock rotation, material storage, nesting, and delivery/dispatch processes
• Ability to read and work from engineering drawings
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
• Willing to work closely with the Production Manager to ensure efficiency and accuracy
• Flexible to support all areas of the business when required
• Full UK driving licence

➕ Desirable (but not essential):
• Forklift truck licence
• Experience with MIG and TIG welding processes
• Experience fitting sheet metal fabrications on site using adhesives and mechanical fixings

We’ve been a little quiet on social media lately… but that definitely doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy 👀🔥

At ProFab Engineering, the workshop has been full on – and what’s been even better is just how many returning customers have come back to us for more work. That’s what it’s all about.

Recently, we installed a mezzanine floor for a returning client. This one was fitted to existing steelwork, which meant on-site welding was required – welding cleats onto the existing steel so the new steel could pick up correctly. A great project to be trusted with, and another example of adapting new work to existing structures safely and efficiently.

We also fabricated and installed an industrial-style staircase to complement a stunning new building that’s still under construction. The staircase fits beautifully alongside the build – and before the project was even finished, they’d already asked us back to fabricate a balcony for the other side. We love building long-term working relationships like that.

Our old friends at Babuls Indian Restaurant invited us back to help with their restaurant refit in Barnard Castle. We fabricated a bespoke steel bar with glass panels to showcase Babul’s artwork, along with back bars, wine racks, and a glass hanger above the bar. It’s always a pleasure working with familiar faces and seeing a project come together.

And another valued returning customer came back for more of our security pods, manufactured for various sites across the UK. These pods are designed to enable 360-degree security cameras to operate effectively – a growing demand, and we’re proud to be their trusted supplier.

It’s repeat business like this that keeps us moving forward. We don’t just fabricate steel – we build relationships.

A Proud Day for ProFab Engineering!

Yesterday marked a special moment for our team as our Director, Jamie, was invited to 11 Downing Street by Lola McEvoy, MP for Darlington, to discuss the real challenges faced by small businesses like ours.

Jamie had the opportunity to meet Chancellor Rachel Reeves and several MPs from across the North East, ensuring that the voices of local businesses were heard at the very highest level. To top it off, Lola’s team even treated him to an incredible tour of Parliament — a truly memorable experience!

Happy Retirement

Last week, Stu Ward, our senior tradesman retired.

Stu, came to us 3 years ago to help out on a job for 3 weeks. 3 years later he was still in the factory wrestling with Steel

Stu’s knowledge of the industry is second to none. The things he can do with a burning torch might as well be Harry Potter’s wand as it can only be described as magic. Which is lucky for wagon drivers that regularly drive into the posts in our yard and Stu has to straighten them

But all jokes aside, Stu has been a vital part of our success and we can only thank him for his service

So last week we took him for a curry and a pint and although he he’s at retirement age he lasted till 1am and this was the only photo we managed to capture of the night.

Thanks for everything Stu and we will see you on the Christmas do for another curry and 1am finish haha

ProFab Engineering is proud to have recently completed the fabrication of a series of heavy-duty skid frames, built from a range of beam and channel sections and incorporating bespoke pipe supports designed to accommodate stainless steel pipework.

This project demanded a high level of accuracy, structural integrity, and attention to detail, ensuring every component met the rigorous standards required by our client.

We’re especially proud that these skid frames are destined for use within the European Aerospace Industry — a prestigious end user that reflects the trust and confidence placed in the quality of our engineering and fabrication capabilities.

A huge well done to the entire ProFab Engineering team for delivering another outstanding project on time and to specification.

Today is the 18th birthday of our apprentice Jack Gascoigne and obviously our Directors (Ben’s) son. No Jeremy Kyle show needed here

We are enjoying his first legal drink at the Stack in Newcastle and low and behold it seems he’s a Guinness drinker like his Dad

Jack has showed great commitment and enthusiasm in his first few months with us and hopefully he turns into a fine tradesman, just like he has turned into a fine young man.

A brand-new steel mezzanine floor with a striking cantilevered front has just been fabricated and fitted by the talented team at ProFab Engineering, creating the perfect home for a purpose-built sound studio.

This exciting new space is designed especially for their members and musicians – a place to create, record, rehearse, and make music magic happen. 🎤🎸🥁

It’s a huge step forward for The Forum, building facilities that support creativity, collaboration, and the local music community.

🌿 Another standout project from ProFab Engineering! 🛠️

We’re proud to have recently completed a bespoke installation of heavy-duty railings and handrails for a very upmarket client in the beautiful suburb of Wynyard. The property features an absolutely stunning garden – and now it’s complemented by railings that are just as impressive. 💫

Crafted with strength, precision, and elegance in mind, all railings were galvanised and powder coated to the highest standards. This ensures long-lasting protection against the elements – so the garden remains a showpiece not just today, but for many years to come.
