New research: the South East installs more air source heat pumps than any other region in England — 16,397 units between April 2022 and April 2025.

But scale only tells half the story. Measured per 1,000 homes the league table flips: Wales leads the UK at 12.3 installs per 1,000 homes, while London sits last at just 1.1 — around 11x lower.

New research: which parts of Britain are actually installing heat pumps?

We analysed MCS and Boiler Upgrade Scheme data to map installations region by region, and the gap is striking:

- Wales leads the UK at around 12.3 installs per 1,000 homes
- The South East installs the most in England by volume (16,397)
- London comes last per home, about 1.1 per 1,000 - roughly 10x fewer than Wales
