Something a bit unusual but still very much British - today I’ve been co-piloting this 1912 Aveling and Porter steam roller!
My stepdad restored it himself and drives it to local steam rallies.
To answer common questions:
- What MPG does it get? …yes
- What’s the top speed? 4MPH or so
- Why not put it on a low loader? That’d be cheating, and where’s the fun in that
- How much does it weigh? About 13 tonnes from memory

If you’re bored over the weekend and live in the North West of England, Heskin steam rally is well worth a visit. Last year there were several Rover 75s present too!

It's here!

The moment many have been waiting for. The 2026 DMGRS Gathering! Sincere apologies for the delay! We were trying to tag our event on with a larger event but it got caught up in a huge amount of red tape and restrictions.

So, here it is.

No overnight camping can be organised this year unfortunately, but there's lots of local camping sites, B&Bs and hotels.

We shouldn't have favourites, but we think we might have one in our fleet.

Our little 218 VVC Coupè is a real survivor, being a barn find car for 2 decades.

But, it's now on the road and doing daily duties valiantly.

We had it in on the development ramp last week whilst having a bit of paint done here and there and we focused on some of the perishable bushes underneath.

Front and rear anti roll bar bushes, brackets and the front ARB drop links, and also a front Anti Roll Bar which we had in stock.

It's sharpened the car up a bit, and it's tidied up the underside a bit too.

Every so often we come across a really unusual fault - today we came across this gem!
This Rover 45 Diesel had very notchy steering - it felt like the power assistance was cutting in and out.
Before taking the plunge and swapping the PAS pump we gave the auxiliary belt run a quick look over - and I’m glad we did…

It seems the belt has stretched to the point it’s being sandwiched between the tensioner and A/C compressor pulley, leading to the whole belt stopping and starting repeatedly when under load from the PAS pump.
It was shredding what was left of the belt and would have undoubtedly failed completely in the near future.

New belt on and it’s now running perfectly - happy days!
