Client Review – Monmouth Project

Great feedback from a recent project in Monmouth.

Geoff was excellent to deal with throughout — something every member of our team picked up on while working on site.

We take a lot of pride in how our projects are delivered, so it’s always good to see that reflected from the client’s side as well.

A solid job all round and one we’re pleased to have been part of.

Progress Update – St Austell

We’ve been sent some progress photos over the weekend from a recent project in Cornwall, where the client has started erecting their new BES Steel Buildings frame.

Foundations and anchor boxes were set out from our drawings, with primary and secondary steel now being installed on site.

It’s always good to see our buildings going up efficiently, with everything aligning as intended from design through to installation.

As with all of our projects, we remain on hand throughout to provide guidance and answer any queries as the build progresses, helping ensure everything runs smoothly on site.

A strong indication of how the project has gone so far — the client has already placed an order for a second building, which is now moving into production.

We look forward to seeing this one completed.

Last week on site at a local business park.

Removal of failed steel gutters and installation of new plastisol-coated trimline systems, formed to suit the roof pitch with pre-engineered corners for a clean, watertight finish.

Straightforward job, but one that still demands accuracy and experience to get right.

Our team aren’t just fabricators — they’re installers, problem-solvers, and used to working across every stage of a steel building project.

That’s what allows us to step into jobs like this and deliver properly, without fuss.

Large builds or smaller upgrades — same standard, every time.

Monopitch rafters through the shop this week.

End plates, haunch gussets, brace connections, purlin cleats — all fabricated, prepped and coated, ready for dispatch.

Nothing complicated, just solid steelwork done properly.

There’s something satisfying about watching it move through the stages —
cut, weld, prep, spray… then out the door ready to be built.

We take pride in that part. Every time.

Three buildings. Three specs. One yard.

Fabricated, laid out, and ready to move.

Every job different —
composite panels, box profile, fibre cement, Yorkshire boarding…
galvanised or timber purlins…
trimline gutters, PVC systems, flashings and trims all accounted for.

Nothing left to chance. Nothing turning up out of sequence.

Steel, cladding, fixings — delivered in sync, installed without delay.

That’s how we run jobs.
That’s how projects stay on track.

Late evenings on site, the right kit in place, and a team that takes pride in what they do.

There’s something about working as the sun drops - a good crew, and steady progress being made. It’s in these moments you’re reminded why you love the job: building something real, in great places, with people who care about the end result as much as you do.

Another step forward.

Fresh batch of BES Steel Buildings specification brochures delivered and ready to go.

This comprehensive guide walks clients through every aspect of our building packages — from primary steel finishes and secondary steelwork, to cladding systems, access points, gutters, trims, and the finer construction details that bring the whole project together.

It gives prospective customers a clear, professional overview of what we offer, while allowing them to tailor the final specification to suit the exact use of their building — whether that’s agricultural, commercial, industrial, or domestic.

At BES, we don’t just throw up a frame and sheets. We provide a structured, transparent specification process so every client knows exactly what they’re getting, right down to the last detail.

Another step in delivering a professional, organised focus from concept to completion.

Staff appreciation: Clive Thomas

Clive has been with BES Steel Buildings from the very beginning, and he’s played a huge part in shaping the standards we work to today.

He brings a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience to every job, whether he’s welding in the workshop, operating machinery on site, or lifting and positioning steel with precision. A skilled welder, a capable machine operator, and someone you can rely on when the work gets demanding.

More than that, Clive has a cool, steady head and is often the voice of reason on site. He genuinely believes in the company, takes pride in the work we do, and understands exactly what we stand for.

Every strong team has people like Clive at its core.

Where the structure comes together.

A look down into the corner of a portal frame, where the rafter meets the stanchion and multiple bracing systems connect into one point.

Hidden within this single junction are the roof brace, eaves brace, and side wall brace — all working together to lock the structure into a rigid, stable frame. It’s these engineered connections that control movement, transfer loads, and keep the entire building performing as designed.

Details like the swept eaves beam, bolted cleats, and tubular bracing aren’t just steelwork — they’re the mechanics behind a building that stands straight, resists the elements, and lasts for decades.

The kind of detail you only see before the roof goes on.

What actually keeps a steel building rigid? Bracing.

In every steel portal frame, bracing is what gives the structure its stiffness and stability. It prevents the frame from swaying, twisting, or distorting under wind, snow, and day-to-day operational loads.

On the building sizes we typically manufacture, traditional angle bracing is rarely used. Modern portal frames more commonly rely on tubular bracing, such as 88.9 mm or 140 mm tube, and in some cases universal beams at eaves level to provide the required rigidity.

Where bracing is used:
• Eaves bracing – ties the tops of the columns together
• Roof bracing – stabilises rafters and purlins
• Side wall bracing – keeps the structure square along its length
• Rear/gable bracing – locks the building front to back
• Apex bracing – used on larger spans for additional stiffness

Together, these elements form a triangulated system that locks the entire building into one rigid, stable structure.

Because real strength isn’t just in the main steel — it’s in the system that holds it all together.
