A beautiful example of copper bringing both function and feature to a garden setting.

“We’re really happy with the rill and guttering. It has weathered a bit now, and these photos were taken when it was first installed.”

Our customer in Upton Cheyney, near Bristol, kindly shared these wonderful images of their bespoke copper water rill and copper guttering. The rill was made to suit their garden layout, creating a lovely flowing water feature that sits perfectly alongside the natural stone paving, planters and traditional walling.

Copper is such a rewarding material for projects like this. When first installed it has that warm, bright finish, then over time it naturally weathers and develops its own character.

The garden rill includes a bespoke reservoir and dispenser, allowing the water to move beautifully through the space, while the copper guttering on the property completes the look with a practical rainwater system that also adds real visual appeal.

Whether you are restoring a period property, enhancing a garden design, or looking for a distinctive rainwater solution, copper offers timeless style, durability and a finish that only gets better with age.

From the factory floor to the clock workshop, Shayaan’s week of work experience gave him a brilliant introduction to the different skills used across the Good Directions Group.

In these photos, he is assembling a clock mechanism and then trying his hand at gold leafing a pair of clock hands. Gold leafing is one of those traditional skills that takes patience, care and a steady hand, and it was fantastic to see Shayaan getting stuck in.

We love giving young people the chance to explore practical skills, whether that is engineering, assembly, finishing or traditional craft techniques. Working with local schools and colleges is an important part of helping to keep these specialist skills alive for future generations.

Well done Shayaan, it was a pleasure having you with us.

A small architectural detail can make a remarkable difference to the finished appearance of a property.

These bespoke roof turrets have been installed on an impressive new build development in Pickwell, Leicestershire, creating an elegant focal point that enhances the character and presence of the roofline. Designed with traditional louvred styling, the turrets complement the stone architecture beautifully and help bring a timeless, heritage inspired feel to this striking development.

Roof turrets and cupolas have long been used to add visual interest and architectural distinction to buildings. Whether incorporated into period properties, country homes or contemporary developments, they provide an attractive finishing touch that helps a building stand out from its surroundings.

It is always rewarding to receive photographs from customers once a project is complete, and these images perfectly demonstrate how well designed roof features can elevate the overall appearance of a property. Positioned along the roof ridge, the bespoke turret creates a subtle yet eye catching feature that enhances the scale and symmetry of the building.

Thank you to Hereward Homes for sharing these installation photographs. We think the finished result looks superb.

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming Shayaan from St Mark’s C E School in Southampton for a week of work experience with the Good Directions Group.

Here he is in our factory, getting hands on with machining and drilling brass collets for our clock hands. It was brilliant to see his focus, curiosity and confidence grow as he learnt more about the precision that goes into our clockmaking work.

We are always proud to work with local schools and colleges, helping young people experience real manufacturing environments and discover the mix of modern engineering and traditional craftsmanship that sits behind what we do.

Many of these skills are becoming a dying art, so passing them on to the next generation is something we feel very strongly about.

A beautiful example of how traditional materials can enhance a modern outdoor living space.

This recent installation showcases copper guttering perfectly complementing the natural stonework and timber framework of this stunning property. The warm tones of the copper add character and elegance from day one, while over time the metal will develop its own unique patina, creating even more visual appeal.

Copper rainwater systems have been used in architecture for centuries thanks to their durability, low maintenance requirements and timeless appearance. Whether fitted to period properties, barn conversions or contemporary homes, they provide a distinctive finishing touch that combines practicality with outstanding aesthetics.

Projects like this demonstrate how quality materials can elevate a building's design while providing a long lasting rainwater solution that will serve the property for decades to come.

There is something truly special about seeing the final piece of a project take its place, and this beautiful squirrel weathervane certainly does not disappoint. Installed atop a clock tower previously supplied by Good Directions, the weathervane adds character, elegance and a sense of heritage to an already impressive architectural feature.

Crafted to create a striking silhouette against the skyline, the squirrel design brings movement and personality to the roofscape while serving its traditional purpose of indicating wind direction. As the natural patina develops over time, it will continue to enhance the appearance of the property for years to come.

We were delighted to receive this feedback from our customer:

"The weathervane is now in situ and looking very majestic."

It's always rewarding to see our products become part of a completed project, and even more so when customers are pleased with the final result. The combination of the clock tower and weathervane creates a stunning focal point that perfectly balances craftsmanship, functionality and timeless design.
