There are some projects that mean so much more than simply providing outdoor seating. These beautiful Friendship Benches at Woodfield Infant School and St George’s Junior School in Shrewsbury are a heartfelt reminder of the power of kindness, friendship and community.

Created in bespoke red and blue colours to match the school theme, each bench carries the simple but powerful message:

“If you can be anything in this world, be kind.”

The benches were installed as a special tribute to a much loved school Governor who sadly passed away last year. The school shared these touching words with us:

“We ordered two friendship benches from Neptune for our school and are so pleased now that we have them in place. They are a lovely tribute to our wonderful Governor who passed away last year.”

It is with great sadness that I share the passing of Robin Davies, founder of our company, and a man who meant far more to me than just a business owner or former boss.

Robin became a true father figure to me, both in life and in business. His guidance, patience, and belief in people helped shape not only my career, but the person I am today. For that, I will always be grateful.

Back in 1988, Robin and his wife Trish started the business from their home, originally selling weathervanes. From those early days, built on passion and hard work, the company quickly grew into what many now know as the UK's go to name for cupolas, clock towers, and exterior clocks. That journey says everything about Robin’s vision and determination.

He had an instinct for opportunity that was hard to match. Over the years, that led to the creation of a highly successful figurine business, producing Flower Fairy and Beatrix Potter pieces, and later to establishing the UK's only manufacturer of copper guttering. He was never short of ideas, and more importantly, he had the drive to turn them into reality.

Robin’s passions extended well beyond the business. He had a lifelong love of clocks, along with radio controlled planes and steam powered machinery, including scale locomotives. Many of those interests naturally found their way into the company’s work over the years. One of my favourite examples is the golf ball pillar clock, born from his enjoyment of the game.

Even after stepping away from the day to day running of the business, and following the company buyout, Robin never truly left. With Rosalie continuing as Sales and Marketing Director, and his daughter Laura remaining a shareholder to maintain that important family connection, Robin would still pop in whenever he was nearby. He always wanted to see what we were working on, often leaving with ideas of his own, or a few bits of scrap to turn into something in his workshop.

That was Robin. Curious, inventive, and always involved.

He leaves behind not just a successful business, but a legacy of craftsmanship, creativity, and character that continues to shape everything we do.

Robin, thank you for everything you gave, to the business, and to me personally. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

A brilliant set of photos sent into us from our customer showing this stunning Shire Clocks installation back in action. After 17 years in their courtyard, this classic clock has been given a new lease of life with a replacement motor and new controller, now automatically adjusting for seasonal time changes.

The result speaks for itself, a timeless feature restored to full working order and looking as striking as ever against the brickwork. Even better, we love hearing that they are delighted to have their clock working perfectly again.

A fantastic example of how our clocks are built to last and can be brought back to life for many more years to come.
