On the Salvation Army Citadel project in Chelmsford, Rockpanel mineral fibre boards were used to an enclosed courtyard, including a small shed that was seamlessly integrated into the overall design using surplus panels.

For the installers J42 Limited, the benefits were lightweight boards, straightforward handling and the ability to cut and shape panels using standard tools. This supported a clean installation and consistent finish across the courtyard elevations.

Alongside buildability, delivered an A2 fire classification, strong durability and low maintenance requirements, ensuring the finished facade will perform reliably long after installation.

On recladding projects, particularly on occupied buildings, materials need to be reliable, efficient and easy to install.

At Harbour Quay in Swansea, Rockpanel mineral fibre facade boards were specified as an A2 rated replacement for the original cladding, closely matching the existing facade appearance. The Alder timber-effect finish retained the development’s character without the ongoing maintenance demands of natural wood.

The lightweight composition and flexibility of Rockpanel supported quick installation and a clear sequencing strategy, a key factor on a live site with residents in situ. Installed in a mix of vertical and horizontal orientations, the system also maintained visual interest across the elevations.

A recent recladding project at the Salvation Army Citadel in Chelmsford shows how thoughtful material choice can transform a space with minimal disruption on site.

The 900sqm community building, originally designed by Hudson Architects, underwent a refresh to its enclosed courtyard. The existing cladding was replaced with bespoke Rockpanel mineral fibre boards in a bold green finish.

Supplied and fabricated by SBS Cladding and installed by J42 Limited, the lightweight boards supported a clean and efficient installation. Surplus panels were even reused to reclad a courtyard shed, helping it visually integrate with the surrounding walls.

This project is a practical example of how facade upgrades can improve appearance, durability and long-term performance without overcomplicating installation.

A recent recladding project at Harbour Quay, Swansea demonstrates how facade upgrades can be delivered safely on a live residential site.

Designed by Holder Mathias Architects, the 69-apartment waterfront development underwent a programme to replace the original combustible cladding with a non-combustible alternative, without compromising the building’s established appearance.

We supplied and fabricated Rockpanel mineral fibre cladding in a timber-effect finish in partnership with M.A. Witcombe Ltd. The lightweight boards supported efficient handling and installation, within the constraints of an occupied site.

The result is a refreshed facade that maintains the original design intent whilst delivering improved fire performance and long-term durability.

🔦 Project Spotlight: Richmond upon Thames School, Sports Hall

A striking new addition to the Richmond upon Thames School campus, this purpose-built Sports Hall marks Phase Two of a wider redevelopment programme. Designed by ECE Architecture and delivered by Beard, the scheme replaces temporary facilities with a permanent, steel-framed building that brings both presence and longevity to the site.

SBS Cladding were pleased to supply:

• Ceramapanel fibre cement from the A1 Natural Textures Raw range, providing a clean, contemporary contrast to the profiled metal cladding

• Swisspearl fibre cement cladding in a bespoke orange, creating a bold focal point on the external staircase and adjoining wall

• FloorSpan framing system, supporting a robust build-up
Installed by Stoneguard, the cladding materials were carefully coordinated to ensure uniform panel dimensions and a cohesive, high-quality finish across the building envelope.
