The Wildlife Sound Recording Society (WSRS) welcomes anyone of any age who is interested in or has an appreciation of the sounds made by wildlife and the natural world. Through its members, the Society fosters developing recording skills and techniques as well as promoting the study of bioacoustics. Members of WSRS benefit from learning about how to go about recording wildlife sounds, where to go,

what equipment to use, what to do with the sounds that have been captured, as well as being alerted to some of the pit-falls to avoid. https://www.wildlife-sound.org/membership/join-wsrs

There are a wealth of advantages to becoming a WSRS member including:

Ecoacoustic Evidence is a community-led initiative by WSRS member and Ecoacoustics Specialist Carlos Abrahams.

It aims to build a repository of guidance on ecoacoustic survey and monitoring methods, where anyone can contribute new evidence, feedback, and revisions.

*** Please take note - due to events out of my control, this Listening Session will now be taking place on: Wednesday 13th May 2026 ***

This month's listening session will be an evening spent listening to recordings made by members of the WSRS celebrating International Dawn Chorus Day. All WSRS members are welcome to join in or just listen in on the side.

The first Sunday in May is International Dawn Chorus Day, a global celebration of nature's greatest symphony. Continuing in our tradition, we invite members of the society to share their recordings of the dawn chorus made over the first weekend in May of this year. The timing of Dawn Chorus day is based on the boreal spring, so for our members in the southern hemisphere, we will also accept recordings celebrating the austral spring.

🌿🎙 We’re thrilled to welcome Eloïsa Matheu de Cortada (Eloisa Matheu) as the new President of the Wildlife Sound Recording Society - and our first international president!

A biologist with a deep passion for nature’s soundscapes, Eloïsa began her journey in zoology before becoming a pioneer in bird sound identification and field recording. In the early 90s, she founded the Alosa label, releasing Spain’s first bird sound ID guides. Her work has taken her across the globe, capturing the voices of ecosystems from Costa Rica to Kenya.

Today, she continues to share the beauty of the natural world through education, radio, and her work at the Barcelona Natural Science Museum’s sound archive.

Thank you Eloïsa, we’re excited for this new chapter with your ambassadorship! 🌍🎧

Introducing our new team of Sound Magazine editors (part 3)! Greg Green, Angel Perez Grandi and Graham Norman were each asked to pick a sound recording from a previous issue, that inspired them in some way.

Here is our editor-in-chief Greg presenting a recording by Richard Beard from issue 139: Dawn Chorus. Greg says “i’d like to pay tribute to a colleague i sadly never met. Richard’s contributions to the (British Library) Sound Archive have been absolutely invaluable”.
