Critical speed of Tube / Ball mill formula
A ball mill's critical speed is the theoretical rotational speed at which the centrifugal force acting on the grinding balls equals the gravitational force. At this speed, the media clings to the mill's inner wall and rotates with it without dropping, effectively stopping the grinding process

The Critical Speed FormulaThe critical speed in revolutions per minute (RPM), denoted as \(N_{c}\), is calculated using the following mathematical formula:

Critical Speed Formula
Nc = 42.3 / √D
Nc = critical speed (rpm)
D = mill diameter (m)
Operating: 70-78% of Nc

The Formula Behind the Grinding Mill
Nc = 42.3 / √(D − d)
Nc Critical rotational speed of the mill shell
D Internal diameter of the mill measured liner-to-liner
d Diameter of the largest grinding ball

Gebr. Pfeiffer MVR Roller Mills working principle

The Gebr Pfeiffer MVR Vertical Roller Mill operates as a single machine that combines simultaneous grinding, drying, and classifying within a single continuous process. Its operational model relies on the principles of interparticle comminution, crushing, and pneumatic transport.

Step by Step Working Principle The continuous cycle can be broken down into four distinct phases:
1 . Material Feeding and Distribution
Bulk material (such as cement raw material, clinker, slag, or ore) is continuously fed into the center of a flat, rotating grinding table.
Centrifugal forces generated by the table’s rotation fling the material outward from the center toward the grinding track.

2 . Comminution (Grinding)
As the material is thrown outward, it is drawn into a parallel grinding gap located between the rotating table and up to six stationary grinding rollers.
A hydro pneumatic tension system uses a specialized roller arm lever system to apply extreme pressure to the stationary rollers.
The material forms a steady bed and is crushed and pulverized through a combination of intense compressive pressure and shear forces.

3 . Gas Entrainment and Drying
Once pulverized, the material passes over the edge of the grinding table toward a stationary nozzle ring.
Hot process gases (or air) pass upward through the nozzle ring at high velocities.
This hot gas stream instantly dries moisture out of the material while fluidizing and lifting the particles upward toward the top section of the mill
