🌊 A productive day in Dubrovnik for the SeaClear1 & 2.0 project.

ISOTECH had the opportunity to lead the Marine Litter Decision-Making Workshop, bringing together stakeholders to discuss the challenges of marine litter management and explore how technology, data and collaboration can support more effective decision-making.

The workshop created a valuable space for dialogue, knowledge exchange and the sharing of perspectives among actors working towards cleaner and healthier marine environments.

The day continued with the SeaClear 2.0 demonstration, where partners showcased the project's innovative robotic technologies for marine litter detection and removal. Seeing these solutions in action highlighted the potential of innovation to support the protection of our seas and coastlines.

A big thank you to all partners, stakeholders and participants who joined us, and especially to our partner Regionalna agencija DUNEA for their hard work, dedication and outstanding efforts in organising these events.

Together, we continue working towards smarter solutions for cleaner seas.

♻️ Today we're joining the conversation on the future of circularity in Europe.

Two members of the Isotech team, are participating in the "Make Circularity Europe's One Market Advantage" Business and Industry Roundtable in Nicosia.

As discussions around the upcoming Circular Economy Act continue to gain momentum, this is a valuable opportunity to hear different perspectives from businesses, policymakers, researchers and industry experts.

Circularity is becoming a bigger part of the conversation, not only because of its environmental benefits, but also because of its impact on businesses, supply chains and Europe's economy.

We're looking forward to the discussions, the exchange of ideas, and the practical insights that emerge throughout the day.

🌊 On World Ocean Day, we celebrate the ocean and the collective efforts taking place across Europe to protect it.

As a partner in SeaClear2.0, ISOTECH is proud to support a project that is developing innovative robotic solutions to tackle marine litter and contribute to healthier marine ecosystems.

With the upcoming SeaClear 2.0 demonstration in Dubrovnik approaching, we look forward to seeing the project's technologies in action and the progress being made towards cleaner seas.

🌍 Because protecting our ocean is a responsibility we all share.

🌍 This World Ocean Day finds the SeaClear 2.0 team testing our Robots for the Ocean.

As we prepare for the upcoming demonstration in Dubrovnik, internal trials are underway. Teams across Europe are testing, refining and improving the SeaClear2.0 system to help tackle marine litter more effectively.

Celebrated every year on 8 June, World Ocean Day is a global reminder of the vital role the ocean plays in our lives. The ocean produces much of the oxygen we breathe, supports biodiversity, regulates our climate and sustains communities around the world.

🤖 Every trial brings us one step closer to smarter solutions for detecting, collecting and preventing marine litter.

Today, we celebrate the ocean that inspires our work and renew our commitment to cleaner seas and healthier marine ecosystems for future generations.💙

⚓ ISOTECH brought together 55 stakeholders from the marine and maritime sectors across Mediterranean islands and Europe to identify what is really preventing ports from becoming circular at in Limassol.

ISOTECH led the participatory, collective intelligence process under the project “Green and Circular Ports for a Litter-Free Mediterranean”, supported by the Beyond Plastic Med - BeMed Foundation, exploring barriers across 4 key areas:

📊 Data, Knowledge & Monitoring
🏗️ Infrastructure & Operations
💶 Economics & Finance
📍 Governance & Regulation

The results revealed that Mediterranean island ports are not struggling with environmental ambition as much as they are struggling with operational readiness for a circular transition due to systemic challenges.

📍 Governance & Regulation
Under the Governance & Regulation group of challenges, participants highlighted (1) local political limitations and short governance cycles slowing progress and (2) the lack of circular mindsets and long-term strategies within island and city governance systems.

➡️ This highlights how short-term governance structures continue to limit long-term circular transition planning in Mediterranean island contexts.

🏗️ Infrastructure & Operations
The highest responses under the Infrastructure & Operations group of challenges were: (1) the lack of local infrastructure for reuse, repair and refurbishment activities, and (2) insufficient trained environmental personnel in ports.

➡️ The findings indicate that many island ports still do not have the local infrastructure, technical capacity and supporting systems needed to make circular practices function effectively in reality.

💶 Economics & Finance
Under the Economics & Finance group of challenges, stakeholders stressed that (1) reduce-and-reuse models currently lack financial incentives, and (2) upfront implementation costs create resistance among operators and authorities.

➡️ In practice, linear systems still remain economically easier to maintain than circular ones.

📊 Data, Knowledge & Monitoring
The most selected challenges across the “Data, Knowledge and Monitoring” axis were (1) the lack of clarity around what circularity in ports actually means in practice beyond decarbonisation and energy efficiency, and (2) insufficient knowledge on materials, quantities and waste streams across ports.

➡️ This suggests that many ports still lack practical frameworks, measurable indicators and operational guidance showing how circularity can actually be implemented in everyday port operations.

The main conclusion became clear: The transition toward circular Mediterranean ports is not only a technological challenge. It is a governance, infrastructure and systems challenge requiring coordinated action across the entire maritime sector.

Despite these challenges, Mediterranean island ports have the potential to become hubs of the circular blue economy if supported by the right policies, infrastructure and long-term vision.
