It is important to clarify that not all smile designs are performed solely for aesthetic reasons. In many cases, dental conditions require restorative treatment for functional and protective purposes. We call this a functional smile design 🦷✨.
This patient presents an increasingly common condition: bruxism, which involves clenching or grinding the teeth consciously or, more frequently, unconsciously 💤.
This condition can lead to abfractions and tooth wear facets, resulting in the loss of enamel and, consequently, the tooth’s natural protection against external stimuli. In addition to affecting aesthetics, these lesions can cause dental sensitivity and compromise the structure of the tooth ⚠️.
For this reason, the decision was made to perform a smile design with ceramic veneers, aiming to cover and protect the lesions caused by bruxism, reduce exposure to external stimuli, and improve both the function and aesthetics of the smile 😁🎯.
