A pickling line is a key pretreatment facility in cold rolling production in the steel industry. Its function is to remove the iron oxide scale on the surface of hot-rolled steel coils by using acid solutions, providing high-quality surface strips for subsequent processes such as cold rolling and galvanizing.
A complete pickling line consists of three main sections: entry section, process section and exit section. The entry section includes uncoiler, leveler, crop shear and welder; its function is to uncoil the hot-rolled coil, level the strip, cut its head and tail, and weld strips together to ensure continuous processing. The process section places the strip inside enclosed pickling tanks, the circulating system heats HCl (or sulfuric acid or mixed acids) to the specific concentrations and temperatures, and sprayed onto and used to immerse the strip. Through both chemical reaction and mechanical action, the iron oxide scale is removed. Then, the strip enters the rinsing tanks and drying units to remove any residual acid and ensure a dry surface. The exit section completes edge trimming, oiling, recoiling and dividing coils, ultimately producing pickled coil that meet quality requirements.
