When neutral putty starts showing sanding peeling problems in summer, many manufacturers first suspect insufficient adhesion.
But in some cases, the real issue is quite different:
The putty surface becomes too strong, too quickly.
Higher temperatures can accelerate strength development. Combined with coarse heavy calcium carbonate or excessive gel materials such as pre-gelatinized starch and PVA, the surface may become difficult for sanding machines to cut properly.
This can create the familiar βtwo-layerβ peeling-like effect during sanding.
For formula optimization, manufacturers should pay attention to:
β’ Heavy calcium carbonate fineness and particle distribution
β’ Gel material dosage
β’ Seasonal temperature and humidity
β’ Actual application and sanding conditions
