Large DALI project tip ๐Ÿ’ก

In large hospitality projects, imagine many luminaires operating together while keeping control simple and synchronized. For example, a hotel may include multiple areas such as lobby, restaurant, lounge, elevator lobby, corridor, and conference room, each with around 20 DALI luminaires that only require zone-level control (synchronized dimming or tunable white).

However, in a traditional DALI system, two challenges quickly appear:

โ€ข A single DALI line supports up to 64 control gear addresses
โ€ข Every luminaire normally requires individual addressing and commissioning

With about 120 drivers in total, commissioning can quickly become time-consuming.

A simpler approach is to use DALI broadcast modules.

Instead of addressing every luminaire:

โ€ข One broadcast module per zone
โ€ข The module uses only one DALI address
โ€ข All downstream luminaires respond togetherโ€”switching, dimming, or changing color temperature simultaneously

A small design change that can save DALI addresses and commissioning time.
