Why do electronics repair technicians still need an oscilloscope if they already have a multimeter?

A multimeter is useful for checking basic DC or AC voltage, but it gives you a reading rather than the actual shape of a changing signal.

Ever read “01B” and assume it means 1Ω?

That’s the trap.

For EIA-96 SMD resistor codes:
01 → base value 100
B → ×10
So 01B = 1kΩ.

30C follows the same logic:
30 → 200
C → ×100
So 30C = 20kΩ.

Power off the board, isolate the resistor, and verify the result with the FNIRSI TMP-600.

Does 29.5 µF mean a 33 µF capacitor is still good?

We checked the same electrolytic capacitor with a component tester and a multimeter, then compared both readings with its marked tolerance.

Capacitance is only one clue—loss, ESR, leakage, and circuit behavior may still reveal a problem.
