In August 2026, Suzhou Ruihua Orthopaedic Hospital shared a clinical case: a 51-year-old patient who had suffered the complete traumatic amputation of both thighs was able to walk with a walker after nearly 20 months of treatment and rehabilitation.

According to a novelty search conducted by the Jiangsu Institute of Medical Information, this was the first publicly reported case of replantation following simultaneous complete amputation of both thighs.

The hospital's multidisciplinary team performed an approximately eight-hour operation, including debridement, bone shortening and fixation, vascular anastomosis, nerve repair and soft-tissue reconstruction. Blood flow was successfully restored to both replanted limbs.

In procedures where every adjustment matters, clear imaging, responsive control and flexible positioning help clinicians make timely, informed decisions with greater confidence.

This August, we were pleased to welcome Dr. Mark Taylor, MA, DVM, DACVR, an ACVR-certified veterinary radiologist, and founder of Taylor Veterinary Imaging, LLC to TUTOM Animal Health.

More than a professional exchange across borders, the visit created an opportunity to bring clinical perspectives from North American veterinary imaging into dialogue with TUTOM’s in-house R&D and product development teams — exploring how advanced imaging technologies can better support real-world veterinary practice.

During his visit, Dr. Taylor gained hands-on experience with TUTOM’s CBCT system and reviewed clinical cases together with our team. He shared positive feedback on the system’s performance and image quality, while exchanging perspectives on its potential applications in veterinary imaging.

Building on these demonstrations and case discussions, our conversations covered a broad range of topics, including CBCT applications, CT modality selection, contrast-enhanced imaging, image quality, clinical workflow, image interpretation, and veterinary imaging education.

One particularly valuable discussion focused on how CBCT and multi-slice CT can each play a role depending on the clinical question, anatomical region, patient, and imaging objectives.

Drawing on his experience in veterinary image interpretation, Dr. Taylor also shared his perspective that the potential applications of CBCT may extend beyond some of its traditionally recognized uses when appropriate system performance, case selection, and scan planning are taken into consideration.

Recently, TUTOM welcomed representatives from the Haining International Education Development Office and students from the Zhejiang University–University of Edinburgh Institute for an immersive introduction to veterinary imaging technology.

During the exchange, we shared TUTOM’s development journey, in-house R&D capabilities and growing portfolio of Veterinary CBCT and Digital Radiography systems. Together with our institutional partners, we explored opportunities for internships, practical learning and broader talent development initiatives that bring education closer to real-world industry needs.

For the visiting students, the focus was on how an imaging system moves from concept to clinical application.

From the showroom to the production floor, they followed the full development process—from system design and integration to assembly, calibration and final testing. Our engineers also shared how imaging science, software, electronics and mechanical engineering work together to create solutions tailored to veterinary practice.

Built on a strong foundation in human medical imaging, TUTOM is dedicated exclusively to advancing veterinary imaging. Through independent R&D and close engagement with clinical needs, we continue to develop technologies that support more precise, efficient and accessible veterinary care.

Preparing the next generation of medical imaging professionals takes more than classroom instruction. It also requires opportunities to see how scientific knowledge, engineering innovation and clinical needs come together in practice.

This summer, welcomed students from the Medical Imaging Technology program at West China School of Medicine, Sichuan University, to our Chengdu R&D Center for an immersive learning experience.

Working alongside our engineering team, the students explored digital radiography technologies, intelligent imaging workflows and simulated clinical applications. Through hands-on observation and discussion, they gained a closer understanding of how imaging systems are developed, how technology responds to real clinical needs and how continuous innovation can support more efficient workflows and reliable patient care.

Following the establishment of our partnership in 2025, this is the second consecutive year that SONTU and West China School of Medicine have collaborated on this initiative.

Beyond a single visit, the program reflects a shared commitment to bridging academic education and industry practice. By creating opportunities for students to engage with real technologies, real workflows and experienced professionals, we hope to help them develop the practical perspective, curiosity and sense of responsibility needed for their future careers.

At SONTU, we believe innovation is not defined only by the technologies we develop. It is also reflected in the knowledge we share, the partnerships we sustain and the people we help prepare for the future of healthcare.

As imaging demand continued to grow, the orthopedic hospital sought to expand examination capacity while maintaining an efficient and standardized workflow for its high-volume radiography service.

Following the successful deployment of its first SONTU U-arm DR System, the department installed an additional U-arm system within the same radiology department to better accommodate increasing examination volumes.

By standardizing on the same platform, radiographers can work with familiar operating procedures across examination rooms, while departments benefit from simplified staff training, consistent imaging performance, and greater operational flexibility.

For hospitals, expanding imaging capacity is not simply about adding equipment. It is about maintaining efficiency, supporting clinical workflow, and delivering consistent patient care as demand continues to grow.

Recently, one of our partner clinics received a feline patient presenting with persistent nasal discharge.
After the initial examination, the veterinary team decided to take a closer look at the nasal cavity, where subtle structural changes can sometimes be difficult to fully assess through routine imaging alone.

Given the complexity of the nasal anatomy, the clinic proceeded with a scan combined with 3D reconstruction to obtain a more detailed view of the region.

During image review, the clinician was able to evaluate the nasal structures layer by layer and identify a subtle area that had previously been difficult to visualize clearly.

As the clinician noted:
“With 3D reconstruction, the internal structures of the nasal cavity can be visualized more intuitively, making subtle regions easier to assess from different angles.”

For anatomically complex regions such as the nasal cavity, dental structures, and maxillofacial area, veterinary CBCT provides detailed three-dimensional anatomical visualization that can support more comprehensive image evaluation and clinical observation.
