Production Process of Disposable Plastic Cups
The manufacturing of disposable plastic cups employs a highly automated continuous process, specifically designed for mass production. The most commonly used raw material is polypropylene (PP), which comes in the form of small resin pellets. The following is a simplified overview of the key steps:
Extrusion and Thermoforming (for PP cups): This is the most widely used method.
Resin pellets are fed into an extruder, where a rotating screw pushes them through a heated barrel to melt them into a uniform plastic melt.
The melt is extruded through a flat die to form a continuous molten plastic sheet.
The sheet then enters a thermoforming machine, where it is softened by heaters and stretched over a mold containing multiple cup-shaped cavities.
High air pressure, provided by an air compressor, shapes the sheet into precise cup forms.
After thermoforming, the cups are blown into a cup-stacking machine, and then workers manually package them.
This efficient process ensures the production of uniform, hygienic, and cost-effective disposable cups for the global food and beverage service industry.
