500 m³ Double Membrane Gas Holder Project Successfully Completed in Dezhou, Shandong

Recently, the 500 m³ double membrane gas holder supplied and installed by Qingdao Haiyue Membrane Structure Co., Ltd. for a biological wastewater treatment project in Dezhou, Shandong, was successfully completed and passed the gas-tightness test on the first attempt. This milestone marks the completion of the project’s biogas collection, buffer storage, and constant-pressure supply system, providing a stable and reliable gas source for subsequent biogas power generation and heating.

The project treats a large volume of wastewater with a high organic load, continuously generating biogas during the anaerobic treatment process. To address the imbalance between biogas production and consumption, as well as limited peak-shaving capacity, the project was equipped with a 500 m³ double membrane gas holder. Its storage capacity automatically adjusts according to variations in biogas production, effectively balancing supply and demand while reducing biogas flaring and energy waste.

Despite a tight construction schedule and multiple teams working simultaneously on-site, Haiyue’s project team carefully coordinated the installation and strictly controlled every critical stage, including bottom membrane laying, inner membrane installation, outer membrane fastening, electrical control integration, and system commissioning. The installation was completed ahead of schedule, with the gas-tightness and overall operating performance meeting all acceptance requirements and earning high recognition from the project owner.

Guyuan Biogas Project in Hebei: Turning Potato Waste into Clean Energy

In Guyuan County, Hebei Province, China, where winter temperatures can fall as low as −40°C, a large-scale anaerobic digestion facility has operated reliably for more than eight years. This project provides a representative example of successful biogas production in an extremely cold region.

The project primarily treats potato pulp and organic wastewater generated during potato starch processing. It includes four anaerobic digesters, each with a capacity of 6,000 m³, together with an advanced biogas holder system. The facility produces more than 26,000 m³ of biogas per day, demonstrating that agricultural processing waste can be converted into valuable clean energy rather than simply being treated as an environmental burden.

The project follows a complete process route:

Hydrolysis and acidification → digestate recirculation and slurry homogenization → high-efficiency anaerobic digestion → biogas purification and upgrading → agricultural utilization of digestate

Since the potato residue has a solids content of approximately 13%, the system uses recirculated digestate to dilute and homogenize the feedstock. This approach minimizes fresh-water consumption while improving internal water recycling and overall process efficiency.

The biogas produced through anaerobic digestion is first collected, buffered, and stored in a dedicated biogas holder. It then undergoes biological desulfurization and membrane upgrading to produce biomethane that meets the required utilization standards. The upgraded biomethane is supplied steadily to residents in Guyuan County for daily cooking and winter heating.

Meanwhile, the digestate generated after fermentation is returned to surrounding farmland for irrigation, fertilization, and soil improvement.

From potato-processing waste treatment and biogas production to purification, urban energy supply, and digestate recycling, the Guyuan project has established a complete resource-recovery chain. This case demonstrates that even under the challenges of extreme cold, high-solids feedstock, and winter operation, a biogas project can achieve reliable long-term performance through appropriate process design, dependable gas-storage equipment, and professional operational management.
